As someone who was born raised and lived next to forever in Maine, I can tell you that unfortunately there absolutely are direct comparisons that can be made with respect to the s*** happening in the state of California and our own beautiful state of Maine.

Well, if you mean drug use, then of course you are right, given that drugs are ubiquitous. (I almost mis-read "lived next to forever in Maine" as meaning you 'lived next to Maine for a long time', which would mean New Hampshire. What a relief to go back and read it correctly, as I wouldn't wish New Hampshire residence on anyone!)

Unless they hate sales tax...

And social services.

Not true. They have as much or more services than most states based on need.

They make all their revenue on that one toll booth between Maine and Mass plus property taxes.

They have the smallest state government per capita.

(Yes, they spend less on public welfare, but they have way less people in need, maybe because of more wealth.)

Do they not also have the largest legislative body in the world? (just looked it up: #3 or #4). They also have a big mountain.

It's always been maine for me but just doesn't make any sense any more. One of the poorest states in the country, with one of the smallest and oldest populations is also at present one of the most heavily taxed states in the nation. I would be ok with most of that if they were not to an extent mimicking states like Ma. and sadly somewhat like (you guessed it) California .

States with higher tax rates than MA: IA, SC. Wonder why nobody points to them as a high tax state?

But my narrative!!!

But my narrative!!!

The average total state tax burden in Mass on a a median household is over $9, 000 per year. It makes it one of the more heavily taxed states despite its flat 5 per cent income tax rate. Whereas Delaware whose income tax is 6.05% percent higher than Mass has no state sales tax. Sussex County Delaware one of the state's three counties which has Delaware's most expensive communities typically has some the lowest real estate taxes in the United States. It is not uncommon for a $400,000 home to pay less than $1200

a year in property tax. The average state and local taxe burden here is only about $4000 per year. This why so many people are moving here from New York New Jersey and Conn.

$9,000?!?

And people in Massachusetts think they get taxed a lot?!?

Oh please. Move to Illinois. In Cook County, the taxes on a pack of cigarettes are higher than that...

Why would anyone willingly want to move Illinois.

So? You guys were bitching about ME turning into MA and CA.

I wasn't. I like Maine but according to Bert and I "You can't get there from here." " Eh !Yup!"

MA is middle of the pack for tax rates (5%). It’s bottom third for property tax rates.

Wonder why the slow encroachment from Ma to me then? Oh I think i got it - they want their private playground. ME is not so middle of the pack.

I lived in one of the poorest counties in the state of Maine for many many years along side some of the the hardest working and most fiercely independent people I have ever known. They aren't particularly enamored by the influence of the current big government encroachment. They want to for the most part be left alone. They see a social invasion on the horizon and don't like it. Someone has to pay for every new program that is introduced. I lived in the other state of Maine or what some of us call the real maine north of the city.

That’s a massive assumption.

There is not a team in MLB that doesn’t upgrade right field by acquiring Betts. So why would these teams sit idly by while the Dodgers and Padres made sure Betts’ availability reached every headline? Especially after the Graterol physical gave them all a second chance. What suitors were going to come around if Bloom was even more patient?

This close to spring training most teams are set and don’t have the dollars to take on a 27 million dollar Betts contract. Add on top of that the 16 million for Price and it narrows your trade market.

Because they could have dumped $9mill instead of $75mill...
