I'm surprised more than half the votes are for $350/10 or $375/12 or more.

So far.

Because people want him to stay and aren't concerned with Henry's bank account.

But, it felt, to me, like the mood was $350/10 was too much money and way too many years.

I think some posters would say 350/10 is too much, but that they should still pay it just to keep him around.

$35 Mil AAV for an MLB star isn't outrageous at all in the current market -- not after what two guys just signed for: a pitcher making $36 and a third baseman who's not as good as Betts making $35...

Fans have to have perspective -- no matter how much annual income their entire household brings in (as well as maybe their entire neighborhoods, villages, provinces and nearby third-world countries).

We don't know which team will give Mookie the most years, but we should assume that all would have to concede he's worth $35 Mil per NOW... and barring injury, that number will only go up by next winter.

I agree, but when I suggested we should offer him $350M/12 and seettle on $350M/10, last summer and fall, it seemed like just about everyone said I was nuts.

Not me -- I liked you because you were as nuts about Mookie as me...

I've always said they should just pay him.

No baseball player is worth that money, the game passed the insanity threshold long ago, the nerds and their analytics have ruined the game.

Too funny!

The Rock made 90M last year. I’d rather watch mookie.

just another overpaid celebrity on tell a vision. I can watch Betts where ever he gets overpaid, Boston, L.A. who knows maybe he has Death Valley in his future, cannot say I would watch him play there, but this is what happens when you allow the patients to run the asylum

nothing, or none of the above

The first choice says "or less". Choose that one.

To me, that's the min offer Betts will end up getting. You may disagree, but choosing the first option includes an offer of $240M/8.

yeah o.k your honor, but I do so under objection and change " or less " to a lot less, professional sports are looking more and more like money laundering operations when the likes of Jackie Bradley can command 10 million per season to piss me off watching him attempt to hit

Okay, that’s 3 guys. Now the vote totals show over half.

If you pay Mookie $35 Mil, whose salary do you cut? Mookie will get injured during his career and miss periods. It would be like another Price with injuries and aging issues weighing down the payroll. Give me a couple of $17 Mil players for 5 years. Much better bet.

for 2 years i wanted to give him a blank contract to fill in whatever numbers he wants ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

yeah. i wish it was the oldy times when the players were basically slaves to the front office. i mean they are "owners". the Red Sox are worth 3-4 billion dollars but god forbid a player...an actual player!...demand a slice of that 4 billion dollar pie! he should play for average american household salary and allow the owner to maximize all profits! MBGA!

Won't somebody please think of John Henry?!??!?

He can't help himself from signing guys outside the organization to s***** deals, so it's not his fault he can't keep future HOFers around!

And if history is any indicator, it's practically guaranteed that once that HOFer is gone for good, they'll wind up blowing the money it would've taken to keep him on inferior replacements who fans will soon complain about.

I know what you're saying, but 400 million will give anyone pause.

The biggest contract we've ever given out is Price's 217 million, and now we're trying to dump it.

And Mookie wants almost double 217 million.

I believe Mookie is worth more than double Price, both on and off the field.

Right now Mookie is golden. But that could change with amazing rapidity.

But Price was a mistake. Mookie is certainly less likely to be one, but that doesn’t mean he won’t at some point.

Mookie want $35 million per year for 12 years. How many good years do you expect from him?

The 2003 Marlins are the only team in the Competitive Balance Tax era to allocate more than 20% of its payroll to one player and win the World Series.

Betts is after money close to that. I don't see us bucking the trend somehow. Especially with the contracts we have on the books for the next 3/4 years.
