Why do you want Myers so bad?

The $17mill savings in AAV. It’s one of the more realistic salary dumps in a Price trade.

It’s certainly not for his baseball skill set

I don't.

I want to dump Price more than not wanting Myers.

Here's my reasoning:

1) Myers can play 1B and may still have some life in him.

2) We need a 1Bman and OF depth.

3) Price is owed $96M/3. Myers $69M/3. (Nobody will take Price for free.)

4) Price costs the Padres $9M x 3 years- not bad for them.

5) We save $17.2M a year, which is close to our projected overage on the LUX Tax.

6) No more Price drama.

This is not about Myers. We can pay some team $69M to take Price off our hands, but we'd have nothing to show for it, and we'd only save $9M a year on the tax budget. We can trade him for a player who is owed way more than his Lux tax number- a guy like Myers.

According to cots, we're projected to be $17.6M over the Lux line. This trade could get us under by itself.

Plus, I can't help but chuckle when people ask, how are we going to replace Price?

It's addition by subtraction.

Precisely.

The Red Sox would nearly double their savings from the $9 million in real dollars to the $17+ million AAV for the luxury tax calculations.

Probably no other deal offers that bang for the buck.

While price is never going to be a Media darling, haven’t we read in numerous publications that he is well liked and respected in the clubhouse?

Rougned Odor is another pretty good one. He’s owed $37mill over the next 3 years on a contract with an $8.25mill AAV.

He also isn’t very good at baseball, but he’s much better than Myers...

Chuckle away, but who replaces Price in the rotation? You might not like him, but he was worth 2.3 fWAR last season and 2.4 fWAR the year before. You ain’t gettin’ that outta Mike Shawaryn.

I’d sooner deal Eovaldi, since you need a replacement for him whether you trade him or not...

The Padres would be stupid to turn that deal down. But it’s not as good for the Sox...

That's not a big deal, to me.

We can't count on him for jack. He costs too much. He becomes a distraction, at times.

I'd trade em both.

Might be more feasible if we still had Logan Allen or Michael Kopech or Jalen Beeks. Or anyone who could pitch at the MLB level...

does it matter?

does anyone not think 2020 is dead man walking?

we should 1million percent shed price and/or eovaldi contracts if at all possible.

we need to reset.

price is waaaay overpaid.

eovaldi is a TJS waiting to happen.

we dont have a manager.

our RP is a bigly question mark

Odor was really good at one point. He's so weird to me because he used to mash FB's but now is AAAA level with the same pitch. Myers is a little better than Odor, but I'm not sure this team needs another COF/1B RHB.

As long as Price can stay healthy, he's of more value on the team than for trading for a dead salary just to get under the cap.

But then the Sox could make absolutely zero moves during the season and they still have holes to fill.

I actually think Odor is a little better than Myers, and Odor plays a position the Sox currently have manned by the winner of the Peraza/Lin/Hernandez/Chavis battle. He's an out machine, but he also has hit 30+ home runs 3 of the past 4 seasons...

I'd rather have Sale and Eovaldi than Beeks and Kopech.

His baseball card stats are decent enough, but FWAR hates him.

Need to give him more credit for blasting Bautista.

He's not a great defender. He might be able to switch to 1B where his glove is less of a liability.

You're itching for a fire sale.

I'd be happy with just JBJ, Price & Eovaldi, but I'm thinking why not get something for Betts, while we can.

(I want him back, badly.)

Price and Eovaldi are already "holes" to fill.

He is still a RHB like Chavis and Dalbec. That's quite a logjam.

If you think Price is a hole, I don't know what to tell you. His worst season as a Red Sox was a 1.5 fWAR guy. That's not a hole.

But you do prefer Logan Allen over Kimbrel?

Also, Beeks was better than Eovaldi last year...

I will take the next 3 years of Price at $96mill over the next 3 years of Eovaldi at $51mill.
