Nomar was rather a different story, playing the role of the disruptive malcontent, with a mysterious injury that he seemed to be jerking the team around about.

Your right though, funny thing Theo sold him hot. In the Month of July before deadline Trade Nomar hit .386.

Just because a guy decides to test free agency doesn't make him a malcontent.

Red Sox fans turning on Mookie because he hasn't signed an extension kind of makes me sick.

As long as you can differentiate between those frustrated with Mookie and those who realize that under the right conditions moving him could make sense.

I am all for dangling Mookie for the right package. Trading a superstar almost never brings back equal value, but in this case, it might be worth simply because it is possible to bring him back after 2020. As it stands now, 2019 is looking like a challenge to repeat. So you just lose the one season. And if the right pieces come back (I’ve suggested Urias and Verdugo from LA, which might be light), the Sox could still be competitive in 2020 and (if Mookie returns) potentially unstoppable (ok maybe not) in 2021.

It’s not going to happen. But it’s not the worst idea...

Theo did a great job with that trade, no question. Nomar's defense was what was really bad, and Theo got a good defensive shortstop.

Sure 2019 looks like a challenge. But the chance is there, and I don't think if you're the Boston Red Sox you throw away legit chances.

I think players that want something done, can get it done if they are committed to that organization.

This Off-season will tell me a lot. By both the Sox and Mookie.

If they managed to get Urias and Verdugo, is 2019 over?

So far , the trading deadline action has been as boring and slow moving as the free agency period was . The NBA is grabbing all the headlines. MLB just does not know how to do things. The commissioner and the owners just don't get it .

I wouldn’t be surprised if another one year deal was reached. But it doesn’t mean anything with regards to Mookie liking or disliking Boston. Some players view free agency as something they’ve been working for their entire lives...

Well it’s still early.

July 31 is typically a nonstop news maker right up to the official deadline...

No, but now that I look at it, your trade is one the Dodgers would be pretty unlikely to make.

What do you suggest the commissioner and owners do to liven up the trading deadline?

I don't have much hope of the commish doing anything except dumb gimmicks. As for the owners and their G.M. s ; get busy . Let's see a couple of trades to get things rolling. Create some interest, some excitement. It was the same with free agency . Day after day of nothing. Just excuses and reasons for doing nothing. You don't see that in the other major sports.

Who wants that kind of upheaval in MLB every summer?

Deadline trades in baseball tend to make the good teams better and the crappy teams crappier.

Short term maybe.

But even one year later I don’t see the Angels crying over Ian Kinsler...

I told you guys decent pitchers could be acquired without trading top prospects, and that this is a buyer's market.

Our performance last night indicated that we have multiple problems with Pitching, offense and focus. I doubt if we are in a position this year to make sufficient trades to be a factor in the playoffs, even if we get there. We have Porcello and Sale underperforming, our BP is on the weak side and we have guys like Betts and Beni underperforming. By the end of JUly our situation should crystalize and we should know whether to still try to supplement the team this year or go to plan B and try to strengthen for 2020. The waqy we lost last night left me with negative feelings.

Actually this Trade tells me teams like our Lower Level talent. For a Rental, O's essentially did a International Draft, move, for money sent back to the Sox. Hey, if your rebuilding this was not a bad idea for them. That new GM got some good Talent for Houston and St. Louis. Known as a top scout.

How do we still have useless players on this roster? Wright, Hector, Leon, Nunez.... not one of these bums make a roster spot on any team with half a brain. With the effort being given night in and night out, how can we even think this team has a playoff push in us? The next two weeks should tell whether or not we need to sell and rebuild. We have the 4 game series with Toronto and then series with O's before the nightmare stretch with NY, TB, NY, TB. If we don't somehow take 3 out of 4 from Jays and sweep the O's should we really look at dangling Mookie out there and maybe even Beni too.

Bailey is getting paid peanuts. Your not getting much back, for him. Typical A's move, many times they work. Pitchers Park, Bailey could help. Smart move. Nothing to lose. Edited by OH FOY!

The Red Sox would be trading Benintendi low. What can you get for a .270 hitter with moderate HR power?

The Red Sox are having a down year overall, like many teams coming off a championship. I would start planning for 2020 and I wouldn't give up any top prospects for rentals. Certain prospects should be off-limits in trades including Casas, Mata, Groome, Jimenez, and Houck.

The two big questions for the Red Sox next year concerns who will be the 5th starter and how do the Red Sox fix their bullpen problems?

Fortunately, Nunez will be gone next year and hopefully Leon will be gone too. Maybe the Red Sox can improve their 2020 bullpen through a couple of free agent signings?

I think Beni's stock value has not fallen as much as you think. GMs do not value players on just their most recent 2 months. He is young, cheap and should improve.

What does GM moonslav59 do to fix this team.... who are you trading, who are you signing long term.... with the trades who are you looking to bring back?
