I expected age progression growth. His defense got worse.

He's hot right now, but he didn't help much when we were still in it.

(I clearly stated "Bad" could be just not meeting expectations.)

I guess those were your expectations, but Beni had a decent year last year and is repeating that again. He began hitting well a couple of weeks back when we still had a chance. He is getting arround 3/4 of a million, chump change when you compare him to Betts, Bogie and JDM. I would rate his performance as consistent not bad.

I would keep Beni before I would keep JBJ and I am not particularly a big beni fan. If you could as one poster suggests, non-tender JBJ and then sign him for less than the expected arb number for this year (I have heard as high as $10-$12M) and less than what he made in 2018 I would be fine with that.

I don't see Bradley as having a very big market. If someone wants to overpay him, DD should go after one of the other top CF gloves.

.947 OPS with RISP

.962 OPS with men on

2018:

RISP 1.151 (.386 BA/.480 OBP)

13 HRs & 90 rbi in 200PAs

2019:

RISP: .947 (.304 BA/.420 OBP)

5 Hrs & 40 rbi in 138 PAs

I know calling a hitter with an OPS over .940 "bad" sounds bad, but he did not meet my expectations.

I'm fine with moving him to "Good:.

That idea works great as long as 1) The Sox can resign him, and 2) they can do it at a lesser cost. If they can't we could very well be looking at losing both JBJ & Betts.

I say let him go to arb. It's only one year and by the time that year is up we'll have a better idea of what the Sox status is with Mookie.

I know I said recently that people tend to undervalue having JBJ & Mookie in that outfield. Did anyone notice that the tying run for the Sox in last night's game was scored on a ball that either Mookie or JBJ would have made the play on "just to stay loose"?

Are you okay with us letting JBJ go and replacing him with an equally good defender?

How about slightly worse on defense but $5-7M cheaper?

Like I said, I'm okay with saying "good". There were only 3 categories: good, bad and ugly. If there was a great and good/decent category, I'd place him in good/decent with JD.

That's based on the premise that we can land an equally good defender and I wouldn't part with JBJ until I was sure that player was in the fold. IMO one in the hand is worth two in the bush (In everything but sex). :D

Given that we have a fair idea of what his salary would be in 2020 I'm not in favor of either of those proposals. Ask me again after the Mookie situation gets settled.

I suspected you'd answer this way.

I respect your love of defense. I'm with you all the way on that.

I do think there are several fantastic defensive CF'ers in MLB these days. Some hit worse than JBJ, but if they can field like him and cost a small fraction of what he will cost, I'm on board with moving on. I'll miss JBJ, as he was may favorite player since before his call-up.

I would make sure we got a great defensive CF'er before deciding on non tendering or trading JBJ. He and Betts remind me of the Dewey & Lynn years.

I don't mean to bring anyone down, but I wanted to share some bad news.

We had to put our 19 years old Shepherd-Yellow Lab mix named Kaleb down this morning. He lived a long and love- filled life- both giving and receiving.

He's been with me from the deep woods of Maine, to a tiny apartment in Mexico City and here to Sugar Land, Texas.

Peace, my friend.

This line up should score some runs, no?

1 Betts

2 Devers

3 Xander

4 JD

5 Beni

6 Chavis

7 Vaz

8 Marco

9 CF

Good enough to be a playoff team?

Sorry to heat it. They do become family members and of course they are missed so much when they go.

Marco seems to have a decent bat and the verdict is out on Chavis. There is room for improvement the second his year. Can't expect a great deal there but I would expect less strikeouts.

I am open to another defensive CF who can at least duplicate JBJs offense but for a lot less money.

It definitely is a good lineup. It will be hard to keep together though. Ultimately, I would prefer a left handed first baseman and a right handed second baseman. Lets see what the pllan is in the off season.

Sorry to hear that. I know how attached we get to our dogs. Will he be resting in Maine or in Texas?

It's looks better on paper than reality, although we are second in runs scores, so it's still excellent.

Marco was sent to the minors. His sample size is small.

Chavis is under .700 after his frist 14 games.

JBJ is hovering around .700, with just about all his hits within a 6 week period.

Thanks, slash.

He was the best dog anyone ever had.

(I know everyone thinks that about their dog, but this was for real.)

Again, thanks.

I don't have JBJ in my line up.

I'm willing to give Chavis more AB's and Marco a long look.

SORRY! Unless you have two Weiner Dogs. Then, it's just a blessing... I mean, for their suffering....

;) kidding! Sort of.

Sorry Moon! Very sorry for your loss!

The worst. Mine died 30 years ago almost to the day (but who's counting??!). I swore I'd never have another, until I became part-owner of one last year. I dread what I know is one day coming.

Sorry for your loss moon.

Going through it now for what is the 5th dog and 6th pet for me. This one is hitting me hard as it is touch and go and this one is particularly poignant for me. Raised him from weened and raised him to be a little clown, to make everything and everybody around him better and happier and for him to benefit from it. The dog really tells you what his owner wanted him to be, not the other way round.

Sure enough, a little clown he became....smiling all day long, wagging his come play with me flag all day long. Fearless when confronting another male dog with bad intentions many times his size there has never been a dog he ran into that he would not have playing with him within about 2 minutes tops. Now he knows there is something wrong and my inability to do more than I am doing to try to pull him through is ripping me to shreds.

To own a dog that confronts everything life puts in front of him with courage and love has been a privilege for me and one I am desperately trying to extend.

PS. Just to clarify my comment above about dogs with "bad intentions", dogs don't have bad intentions. They simply respond with more or less skepticism about a circumstance that confronts them and can be dangerous if not properly handled or not handled at all for that matter.

34 games in 34 days did this team in. Just didn't have the Pitching, especially in the Farm to help out the Major League club. We were going to need them, nobody goes that many games without some help from the Farm.

Sox will have same problem again next year, and good chance year after that.

Not in any particular order:

Billy Hamilton: He has a $7.5M option with KC and has a .544 OPS in 2019. It was .631 before this year, career. He's a much worse hitter than JBJ, but his D is excellent.

Jarrod Dyson: FA from AZ (.706 OPS in 2019- almost identical to JBJ's. Is at .668 career.)

Manuel Margot: Could trade for the CF'er who was demoted this year.

(This was discussed on another thread, and I think there were 3-4 other names of interest.)
