Precisely why it's more than just blown saves killing the Sox.

Sure it is. The only thing is, the bullpen is the area that was obviously neglected in the offseason.

Off course the Yankees win to top it off. This team might get spanked in London. At best they get a split. They haven’t shown the ability to hang with the skanks through 5 games.

Might get spanked?

I will admitt I am guilty of saying we didn't need Kimbrel.... I truly thought we would be ok without him..... Man was I wrong. I just wish we had a closer.

I’m in that bandwagon. I remember telling Ted in Spring Training that we didn’t need Kimbrel. I was dead wrong.

16 blown saves in 82 games.

It’s simply unacceptable. With 5 games or so we were fighting for the division.

The most epic chokes thus far have been if I recall well vs CLE, MIN, and this one.

I've got one word to say. GILES.

Giles has a million dollar arm and a 10 cent brain.

In the 2017 World Series the Astros had to stop using him as he kept imploding .

He's on a team that's going no where and he's having an exceptional season so far. There may be better options, but this one has a chance of actually happening. If you have a better choice that hints of reality, please post it.

Now I have to do some homework!

Alright, I don't know what the deal is, but I've gotten a few PM's about this so I'll address it. I haven't had much time to read the game threads this week due to work, I didn't even watch the games today and last night so I'm not 100% sure what is going on.

Regarding game threads, we have "rules" around here that have been around since the site was created, they've been broken a few times, and it happens, they're sort of like unwritten rules. The Game Threads can be started by anyone as long as the Red Sox lost the previous game. If you start a game thread, and the Red Sox win, you make the next game thread until they lose again. If you make a game thread and they lose, anyone else has the chance to make one. If you don't follow these rules it won't result in anything drastic such as a ban like some people have been mentioning, but it would be appreciated if we followed this as it is a tradition and is for fun. The personal attacks regarding some members who don't/didn't follow these rules aren't necessary however, and that needs to end now. We (mostly) all root for the same team and I get this season has been frustrating at times, but lets just all calm down, try to respect the tradition and enjoy the games without attacking other posters.

Yates? Greene? Elias?

I mean, there’s plenty of options who are better than our sending closers by committee.

Just like Coma!

I actually was never a “coma” guy. Tito IMO was a pretty darn good manager.

But I also don’t remember him doing as many odd/questionable moves as WTF

Francona was never handed a scrap heap bullpen either...

I think if Cora was making that many bad/questionable moves there would be a lot more talk about it outside the game threads. But we all see things differently, that's for sure.

Valid, however something tells me Francona wouldn't keep putting Barnes out there in the 9th.

Who would he put out instead? Name two guys, because Workman cannot pitch every game.

As someone who frequents this site once in a Blue Moon Odom, I agree. Everyone calm down and eat some fruit. (extra credit for the movie).

Bingo. He has no better options than what he's been doing.

big guy with shaggy hair...just kidding. Although he may turn into one some day soon.

Anyone other than friggin Barnes. The guy has proven he is not capable of closing a game in the 9th. Yes right now is tough because Hembree is injured, but he also could be a legit 9th inning guy. He has been rock solid for us before he got hurt. Workman can't pitch every game but neither could Kimbrel. I would have given the 9th to Brewer then.... How many chances does Barnes get? I am fine with Barnes being in the game just not the 9th. He can't handle high pressure what so ever and he has proven that. Right now there is no right choice but Barnes certainly isn't it. Give the 9th to Workman and if he needs a night off then give it to anyone other than Barnes.

The thing is , we tend to go overboard on everything. Last year everything fell into place and we won 119 games . So , Cora is " the greatest manager ever . " Now , the team is struggling somewhat , and Cora is a bum . The truth is that he is a pretty good manger who is still learning. Not the greatest and not a bum . Every manager looks better when the players perform well . Every manager looks worse when they don't.

It's not the same people making the statements though. moonslav is the one who said Cora is the greatest manager ever. moonslav is not the one calling Cora a bum.
