Well, he is the greatest CFer of all time so he better make that catch. It's not a reason to swoon over him though. It's just a reason to say "well, that's why he's still starting and not riding the pine."

The catch was worth swooning over.

I wasn't awake, but I assume that when he made that play, it felt like we were going to win the game. Correct me if I'm wrong

Personally I assume nothing in baseball until the game's over, but that's just me.

Same with me, but I do feel momentum shifts and the vibe and mood of the game. The Orioles had had all the momentum since they tied it in the 6th

Jackie's catch was among the best you will ever see, mostly because he went so high and still tracked the ball into his glove. He had to be in that one and only position , mid-air, well before the ball got there. It definitely was a game saving grab.

It may have been something else too. No question that Ryan Brasier gave up a game losing shot, once again, but JBJr's action saved him that embarassment and fan's heat. The catch shouldn't help Brasier's confidence because he was 6" from a blown game loss. Instead , Ryan gets credited with the win. Did he earn it or could feel good about it ? Not likely. But it may in a small way prevent him from losing all confidence. Brasier is by all observation still trending downward from his spectacular rise in 2018. So are a few other guys.

Right, but his offensive performance was still at a level that was enough to be questioned, at least by most people on this board

Yes, but to me .650 is sustainable due to his defense. .600 is close. .550 is probably not. Under .500 is benching territory.

True.

Let's hope he turns things around.

.600 is straight bench material.

Excluding Pedey, Holt, Travis, and Lin for SSS reasons (20

JBJr is unique at .409 OPS as a regular . The next lowest OPS on the team is Rafael Devers at .783 . All others are above .800. Pretty notable gap.

The Tigers, White Sox, and Os aren't exactly world beaters.

True, but we were 6-13 vs the same level teams before, so we are getting better.

Unless someone forfeits

There hasn't been one of those since before you were born. Since 1980, there's only been one.

Better isn't exactly the word I would use. Cora wasted spring training so the starters finally caught up to where they should have been if Cora had a normal Spring Training. IMO the percentages are finally catching up to Cora who isn't as good a manager as he thinks himself to be.

1970's, same with 10cent beer night. There were 4 in the 1970's, I think. Last one was on a Dodgers ball give away night in the 90's.

He's the best we've ever had.

I'm not sure how he thinks of himself.

looks like the annual JBj thread will once again be the longest player thread on TalkSox.

IMO cora will give him this homestand to get going. if he stays ice cold at the dish - the next road trip we may see more of JD in the OF or Chavis may get a shot to play LF. my guess it will be a mix of both until Holt can see again.

either is not ideal for this fan but i would understand the move.

Chavis has played 0 innings professionally in the outfield.

yes. hence "may get a shot"....

I'd say there's no shot for him to play OF, though they did put Youk out there once in a while (runs off and pukes in a bucket).

Not even close. Cora had a terrific abundance of talent which neither Dick Williams the best post WW2 manager , Joe Cronin and Terry Francona did not have. Cora may end up to be a one year wonder just like John Farrell.

... which is the same number he spent at 2b before this season...
