I am well aware of that. Simply speaking, he doesn't pass my eye test
i felt the same way about Lester when I saw him in Spring Training 2006. Cora said that Hernandez is likely to be a contributor to the big club during the season. Hopefully, if they bring him up, he is ready.

Well, last year, everybody we called up seemed to have the magic touch. Those who didn't, like Beeks, were instantly dumped. I do trust Cora's judgment, as we all should, since none of us have an inside look into the clubhouse and organization

That's what scouts relied on for years

Unless you are a trained scout, you should rely more heavily on sabremetrics.

Or, I could just enjoy being a fan. Ignorance is bliss

The game I went to he gave up a couple ER in like 2 innings. I'm much more hesitant

Sometimes in the minors, teams make pitchers and hitters emphasize weaker aspects of their games. So if a pitcher has, say, a great curveball, the strategy will be “no curveballs today. Work on your other pitches.”

This makes the stats and outings look worse, but can make for better pitchers in the long run. It also can make “eye test” judgements deceptively worse...

Logic fail.

His best and ballziest relief performance in the postseason by far was the 6 innings in WS Game 3.

He wouldn't have been able to do that if he wasn't a STARTER.

Great, so we agree. His best performances came from relief.

It's like saying we should have turned Pedro into a reliever after his 6 innings of no-hit relief against Cleveland in the 1999 ALDS.

Eovaldi will be an excellent reliever when he returns from his injury.

Unless there is a medical reason why he can no longer be a starter, Eovaldi will not be moved to the BP.

Wait..,what? Are you seriously advocating that Evo’s value is as a relief pitcher instead of a starter? During the regular season??

MLB.com...Red Sox right-hander Nathan Eovaldi will have surgery to address loose bodies in his elbow, a source told MLB.com. The procedure would sideline Eovaldi for 4-6 weeks, according to a report from WEEI's Rob Bradford. The team has not yet commented.

Eovaldi had a similar operation in 2018 and missed two months while a member of the Rays.

Eovaldi, who re-signed with the Red Sox for four years this winter, has had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow twice.

He missed 8 weeks with the Rays last year, although the time frame is a bit different as he was coming back from TJS. I’d assume he’ll be out 8-12 weeks. 8 weeks if he comes back in relief, 10-12 as a starter. But let’s not jump the gun. 12 weeks is mid July, so he probably will come back as a starter for the stretch run

Yeah, its kind of like that. Except Eovaldi is not Pedro Martinez.

Eovaldi would be an incredibly expensive bullpen piece.

Eovaldi has thrown 150+ innings twice in his career.

Eovaldi is still cheaper than Kimbrell would have cost to close.

Just saw. This sucks. Guess the bullpen goes in his spot. They have been good. Not worried.

Velazquez until Johnson returns.

I wonder when they knew he had loose bodies in his elbow. It might have been better to have the operation preseason, unless of course this condition developed in ST or the first few games. If that is the case, will he be constanttly plagued with bone chips year to year?

When is Johnson expected back? My bad if it’s been posted before. Haven’t heard.

Not sure, but I read somewhere that Velazquez will take EO's slot.
