... on a two-year deal for $23mill.

I thought Dombrowski offered him two years and Robertson’s camp was insisting on 3yrars.

DD’s money over 2 must have been less...

According to MLB News, it's a 21 million contract, 10 this year and 11 next--with a team option 3rd year.

I guess we weren't that interested.

I think DD wants a one year closer so he can reset after 2019 if he’s needs to...

Sounded tempting. We don't know the constraints and options DD is considering, but that did sound reasonable. Maybe Kimbrel is still in play?

I think DD prefers hard throwers in the pen. Robertson really isn't that guy.

Familia would have been the guy in that case. But he got away too. Ditto Kelly...

Kelly certainly isn't reliable enough. Maybe DD also doesn't like Domestic Violence accusations (Familia)?

He was certainly able to overlook them with Miguel Cabrera...

Ilitch definitely calls more FA shots in DET than the BOS owners do.

Kelly only became effective when he went away from his 100 mph, straight as arrow "hit me hard' fastball.

Drellich is reporting that Kimbrel’s offers to this point are “crazy low”. I have a feeling the MLBPA is gonna go wild with this. Look at the FA RP contracts to this point. $8 mil AAV for Kelly. $10 mil AAV for Familia. $11.5 mil AAV for Robertson. Doesn’t seem like the market is supporting more than $10 mil AAV for setup men or even closers this year. You’re gonna see a war at the next round of bargaining.

You might be right about Familia - almost seems as though the Sox have a no ass hole and potential a - hole approach to players coming in.

It's the rise of the stat geeks in front offices.

Kelly can't really complain about his deal, mind you, based on his numbers.

I'm still thinking that Kimbrel is coming back home.

It is looking more possible. If DD is looking for one year deals that won’t affect his ability to reset, the money might not have to be so low...

None of them can. Elite closers only get $16-18mill AAV. What do Robertson and Familia types really think their value is?

I think Robertson's AAV is identical to his last deal, with the years cut from 4 to 2. A very fair and sensible deal all the way around.

It just makes me wonder what numbers DD was talking about with Robertson. Boston certainly had the geographic advantage over Philadelphia for the Rhode Island resident and reportedly DD was talking about the same years.

Or maybe there was no offer. But one would think Robertson would have contacted Dombrowski once he did decide to settle on 2 years...

Well of course one possible explanation is that Dave is more interested in Kimbrel.

The Sox have room for both!!

It's the JD staredown with an inferior player. Kimbrel does not have anybody who can meet his desired price. The Red Sox would still like him, but on their terms - and they have a LOT of viable alternatives on the market they can find. The Red Sox have leverage here, and I would not be surprised if Kimbrel comes back with a fairly friendly deal.

The union will want to get rid of the arb years if the industry is going to treat the luxury maxes like a hard cap. The Yankees for instance are only spending about 29% of their revenue on player salaries. (and spending it on guys who weren't voting playoff shares for their staff) If the team is going to act like it is a salary cap sport, then salary arbitration basically means that teams are getting crazy bargains for these dude's peaks.

Or that Robertson had no interest in playing for the sox........

Even though he expressed interest playing here. Got it!
