Combined sales and income tax leaders

The Tax Foundation interprets individual tax burden by what taxpayers actually spend in local and state taxes, rather than report these expenses from the state revenue perspective used by the Census Bureau. Its State and Local Tax Burden Rankings study reported that Americans paid an average rate of 9.9 percent in state and local taxes in 2012. According to the foundation, the five highest state-local tax states were:

New York 12.7 %

Connecticut 12.6%

New Jersey 12.2%

Illinois 11.0%

California and Wisconsin 11.0%

Big winners today: the residents of California. With a 13.3 percent tax rate on highest earners, Manny Machado will pay the state $39.9M over the next 10 years.

As of the moment I am posting this, they are 79-83.

My guess is something around 80 as well, pending to see if they land Harper. Maybe in one or two years they will contend IF they land some pitching and/or their pitching in the farm pan out. They have a lot of pitching there, probably that's why they are not pursuing pitching at FA —thus far.

Their farm is loaded. Geez they have 10 kids in the top 100 prospect list according to MLB pipeline. Makes sense landing Harper as well if you ask me. They are in a position to be very good in the mid-term. A lot of talented kids are waiting in the wings. 7 out of 10 are pitchers LOL!

They have Fernando Tatis (SS, Rank 2), MacKenzie Gore (LHP, Rank 15), Luis Urias (INF, Rank 23), Francisco Mejia (C, INF Rank 26), Chris Paddack (RHP, Rank 34) Luis Patino (RHP, Rank 48), Adrian Morejon (RHP, Rank 49), Michael Baez (RHP, Rank 72), Logan Allen (LHP, Rank 74), Ryan Weathers (LHP, Rank 93)

The funny part is had the Yanks signed Machado you would be on here trashing the deal, now that he signed on with SD you are on here trying to trash Yankee fans.

I had hoped all along that the Yanks got him.

While I think he will be very productive throughout the majority of that contract I was glad the Yanks spread the money around to a few different areas with shorter commitments.

Anderson Espinoza is ranked 17th in their system. That ship sank.

Anderson Espinoza has been popping up in a few top 100 lists. He’s not as sunk as you think he is...

Nobody wants to see James Woods anymore.

Bryan Cranston should play Dombrowski and Scott Boras will be portrayed by a 3 foot tall CGI devil voiced by Andy Cerkis using his Gollum voice...

Love James Woods, the guy is awesome.

I haven't since the end of last season. Most of the newer ones have him outside the top 100.

While I agree the Yanks could use some lefty balance, I think the need for a SS outweighs the need for a lefty bat, especially considering how many OF's are on the roster.

^ Didn't really want him I guess?

Even being outside the top 100 is hardly the end. Fangraphs has him at 114, but ahead of fellow Padre property Michael Baez, whom Baseball America puts at 72.

Look how the injury to Groome dropped him off the charts.

Espi is still "in play", but certainly the hopes have dimmed.

Not at all.

Just wanted to point out the "damned if we do, damned if we don't" scenario...........

Actually I believe slasher was rather displeased when you guys traded for Stanton last year...

100% correct. i want Giancarlo. Bigly.

i am glad the yankees did not get machado. although it would be interesting to see how that contract played out, he would hurt us 18x a year for many of those years......

I don't follow the Padres that closely, but my understanding is that they will be ready to contend in about 3-4 years.

Is this Cano to the Mariners Pt 2? Nice addition, but what's around him?

Padres have always been a nothing franchise to me. Can't like them, can't hate them, they just exist.

this is so sad.... but so true

Call them the Pods. They haven't quite emerged as an actual baseball team yet.

He is right in calling out the Yankees offseason. The biggest mistake the Yankees made was failing to sign P.Corbin. You sign Corbin and keep Sheffield, which provides more SP pitching depth than J.Paxton alone.

In other words, Corbin & Sheffield > J.Paxton

Corbin was expensive but pitchers like Corbin don't grow on trees and cost big money in free agency.

And then they brought back numb nuts like Sabathia and Happ. That isn't how you build a championship caliber rotation. But Cashman has always struggled in that regard.

His comments on Verlander were totally correct, I'm surprised more people didn't come out and tell Verlander to shut his dumb jock mouth. At the end of the day, Machado made 300 million and Harper turned down 300 million at least once. There is no problem with the flow of money in baseball.

C.Kimbrel has had offers and very lucrative ones. The only reason he hasn't signed is because he is a greedy jackass.
