Find a player who reached free agency by age 26 with 6 years of service time who didn’t cash in enormously.

How many have there even been?

But isn’t your stance typically that you have to spend money to get quality players?

If fans think this is representative, maybe the Sox should sign Robbie Grossman over Mookie Betts when the time comes...

Denny's words were oozing so much sarcasm that I had to wipe off my screen.

I was just kidding with that one . See my later post in this thread .

Heyward was also 26. Porcello would have been had the Sox not extended him. Probably one or two more I can’t think of off the top of my head...

And yet being 26 is a big deal for a free agent.

Being 26 with an MVP under your belt is even bigger. As excited as Sox fans get about Chavis, Harper was NL MVP at a younger age than the Sox rookie was for his debut.

Find a player who reached free agency by age 26 with 6 years of service time who didn’t cash in enormously. The reason the Sox gave Porcello a huge extension was that he was going to reach free agency at age 26 and they knew if he did, he would be unaffordable...

My God, people need to get off the high horse with his ONE mvp season. What's he done outside that year? Not very much.

you take away that mvp year and his career numbers are quite meh. And yes we can cherry pick that stat as hes only had ONE of those year out of 7 so it's not something you will likely see again from him

when the weather warms up he will go off in philly. his splits there for his career are ridiculous.

Lol this makes me laugh. If he can't hit in the cold he should forfeit his contract back to the Phillies.

So what's he good for if hes useless in April / may and then in the fall in September and when playoff hits? It's going to be just as cold in the fall

to phillies FO he is good for $330MM. whether they are right or not is TBD.

i dont know if you have ever been to a game at CBP. the balls fly out of there in warm weather. with this years baseballs + warm weather? he may hit 50.

We shall see. I watched last night's game and Bryce whiffed 3 times. He's leading the majors in whiffs, striking out at a much higher rate than normal. I can almost smell disaster there.

This year will really show us a lot about his character and his abilities.

There are few big money, high publicity deals that pay enormous dividends in year 1, especially when a player is added to an expected playoff team. ARod has a good 2004 before being otherworldly for the next 5 years

Lol. He wont hit 50HR. I'll be surprise if he even hits 40

are we betting on 40 or 50? split the difference - 45?

We can split the difference on 45.

I'll give you a little bit of a break as there is absolutely no way he hits 50 :P

The early returns for these two are not very impressive.

Two and a half months of 10 and 13 year contracts are not going to justify them either way...

Oh I know. Just looking for things to jabber about other than the Sox.

Not surprising to me about Harper. I'm not a fan. I thought Machado would be worth it, but was clearly wrong. Machado was definitely exposed a little in the WS last year.

This is true, but regardless, I would not have done either one of those deals.

Same goes for a comparable deal to Mookie.
