I believe it is the managers in both leagues, and managers aren't allowed to vote for their own players.

Coaches too, I think the GG has produced more controversial choices than any other award, but a lot of this is the historical weak supporting statistics and the inability of voters to select the players they are most familiar with...

Ironically the only thing I'm ever going to remember about Kinsler's time in Boston is a stupid error.

He wore those nice high red socks.

These awards have been a joke often times.

That being said, JBJ deserved one.

Betts was a lock.

Kinsler's award may be more of a lifetime achievement thingy.

Or Kinsler was better than the competition. Those awards are voted on before the postseason so his infamous error was not a factor...

I don't know enough about other teams' 2Bmen. Kinsler is very good on defense.

Fangraphs does have him leading all eligible AL second basemen in UZR/150, and second in MLB behind only NL Gold Glove winner DJ LeMahieu...

pretty sure Juan Gonzalez won a GG in a year the he DH'd more than 1/2 the games.......

I believe you are thinking of Rafael Palmeiro and it was far less than half...

These are the most absurd awards ever given.

Jeter is maybe the worst defensive SS of our time, at least according to the metrics.

Glad Jackie finally got one. Although it seems the award means less nowadays for some reason.

Betts was a lock.

Kinsler? I don't care about throwing away one game so much as I do believe hat I have seen one or two better 2nd baseman in the AL this year.

Damn if I can remember their names!

The Gold Gloves added a sabermetric component to its voting about 5 years ago. Since then, the Gold Gloves have genuinely been much better.

I will say it again. If you want to get the awards right, let the stat geeks do the voting.

Congrats to Mookie, JBJ, and Kinsler.

In terms of UZR/150, all 3 of those guys were the AL leaders at their respective positions.

For comparison purposes, The Fielding Bible Awards (my bible for defensive awards) gave Mookie unanimous first place votes.

JBJ had the 2nd highest vote total for center fielders in the AL behind Kevin Kiermaier, who was better than JBJ in the metrics, but may not have qualified for the Gold Gloves (in the eyes of the voters) due to fewer innings.

Kinsler had the 2nd highest vote total for 2B in the AL behind Rougned Odor by one point.

This doesn't make sense. So Bradley wins a gold glove but yet kiermaier wins defensive player of the year. What a joke.

If kiermaier is defensive player of the year how did he not win the gold glove?

Makes zero sense

Gold Gloves so often end up reflecting fame and offense - that they even get one right at all is always a surprise to me.

I think we can all agree Kinsler did not win a Gold Glove based on his accomplishments with a bat...

I gave up caring, when Pamiero won a GG at 1B as a DH.

I guess it's nice when one of our players wins the award, but that's about it.

3 GGs in one year is rare for Sox teams.

I know people like to cite this as one of the most egregious examples of a bad award, but no one ever considers the possibility that in those 28 games, Palmeiro was really, really good...

He could have been an absolute wizard, but it shouldn't overshadow someone that was very good for 140-150 games.
