A simple search through the MLBTR archives lists the Red Sox, Phillies, Astros, Padres, Brewers, Braves, Giants, White Sox, Blue Jays, and Angels as all being interested in Eovaldi, which represents one third of MLB. And those are just the teams whose interest was public.

Certainly all didn’t make offers, but that’s too much interest to think a discount could be had.

But we'll never know for sure or something...

We'll never know.

But had dd waited it looks like the prices for SP's would have dropped. Hindsight is 20/20.

It certainly is. And in theory if Cash had waited he could have gotten Happ, Britton, Ottavino and LeMahieu for less.

I think these guys know what they're doing a lot more than we do.

We do know that we're never ever going to stop arguing about Lester leaving.

Lester? Hell, I’m still arguing about Babe Ruth leaving!!

I thought Henry's comment regarding the Lester cluster was pretty funny. I just wanted to say "OK John, where are you going with this....or don't you know yourself".

I really struggle with Henry ever since he went on an unhinged rant on EEI about the Crawford signing. I'm happy for his $$$ and he's put the right people in management. He's just one weird dude.

Another point about this so-called 'rule' is that they actually 'broke it' right away with Lester when they went back and offered him 6/135.

Maybe, they knew that wouldn't get him, and it was just a PR stunt.

Yeah, that doesn't bode well for us in our extending of Mookie, or possibly Sale.

At least Machado didn't join the Yanks.

If Manny Machado signs with the Yankees, I cannot wait for the inevitable bench-clearer against the Red Sox. I hope he knocks out Dustin Pedroia too.

where’s that fake reporter dude who swore Manny had a deal with the Yankees on January 2nd

There are always exceptions. Sale is an exception. I have to go along with John Henry's call on this one! lol

oh that guy who printed his degree off the interwebs.

Ah but you came after the one guy who:

1) Thinks Cherington should own his mistake singular - Sandoval. (Hanley was a good player on a good d al. That he didn’t perform isn’t Cherington’s fault.)

2) Thinks Cherington deserves more credit for his success. I mean, we had to have the shortest rebuilding in MLB history, right?

3) Recognizes the insane and unparalleled success Larry Lucchino has had as a sports executive. The man has a Super Bowl ring, multiple World Series rings with multiple teams, and a Final Four watch. This is not all a coincidence or run of good luck, is it?

Would that guy be you?

That's an enormous maybe. The reports were that Lester's choice came down to the Cubs and the Red Sox. Theo jumped the Sox offer by $20 million, so I assume he was taking it quite seriously.

Given their farm systems the franchises of the Red Sox and Padres may be headed in different directions.

Or not.

I look forward to seeing Manny Machado play in late April in Washington DC and in mid-May in San Diego.

Nobody knows, but even the $20M boost fell pretty short of the Cubs offer.

machado to the padres 10yr-300m...

Will harper match it? machado is better IMHO

I have to say, his agent played that well. I didn't think he'd get that much. I certainly don't think he's worth it, and the Padres have a LONG way to go and this just saddles them with a huge payroll they have to work around.
