I entirely agree. Chavis is an abysmal 2b defensively. He’s biding his time faking it as a MIF before he takes over 1b for the next six years. The Sox will have to go cheap to get a 2b, so sticking with internal options or signing a veteran for peanuts is probably the way they’ll go. The Sox still have to address the JDM situation and with all the money they’ve got tied up, they’re gonna be lean elsewhere

I'm just happy that we found a cheap full time alternative in Chavis irregardless of position. I think we have additional bullpen help in the minors masquerading as starters.

That's the problem with OPS - even significant differences look small.

I'm not knocking JD at all, he's awesome. But I thought he would regress a bit this year.

I thought so, too, but I think he ends up over .950.

But what were the odds for Oakland last year or Minnesota the year before?

Sometimes there is just that super long shot that makes it in and bumps out one of the favorites...

Thanks to the hokey innovation ( money grab ) known as the second wild card, Minny and Oakland were able to make it in . Their post season consisted of a trip to New York , a beating and a return trip home.

Play-in game, not a playoff.

I suspect games against the Astros and Yankees matter the most.

Why? We're not going to keep them out of the playoffs any more than they are going to keep us out of the playoffs. The Sox need to beat the teams that they should beat, which they have been doing, after the slow start.

At some point, do we go to a six man rotation to save the arms?

Danny Duffy from the royals would be a guy that would interest me. A lefty. Last year of his contract. He’s making 15 million dollars though.

If you get him at the deadline, his cost may be about $5M with no cash involved or no costly player going to KC.

If he's all we get, we may be able to stay under the max line.

Duffy won’t be free.

Would you trade Dalbec or Hernandez or Duran for him?

Will Smith in SF is the pitcher to go after! 26 for 29 In save opportunities since 18. Closing very well this year. Age 30 and a Free agent in 20. Low money at 4 mill

I put the great ERod on the block for a legit closer or set up man. Another hall of fame performance vs a triple AAAA lineup again tonight.

Add Brasier to the list. There was a reason he pitched in Japan

The Sox pen has been silently very good when it comes to holding leads and winning games. Their bridge and rotating closer role has not been a problem. Their bucket brigade when down have been abysmal. Brewer and Thornburg are essentially the Sox version of Ramiro Mendoza, ie human white flags.

You don’t need Will Smith. The cost to acquire him will be astronomical and he doesn’t fit a big need. Also, if Eovaldi has any setbacks, he slots into your pen. The name is watch for the Sox is Bumgarner. He isn’t what he used to be, but he can be a solid middle of the rotation kind of guy and the Sox might be willing to move on from ERod for him, IMO

I have a feeling Bumgarner ends up on the Cardinals.

Regardless, I wouldn't deal E-Rod for a relief pitcher, he has more value than that.

24 men left on base!

That must have shattered the record. You have to try hard to do this.

It was actually 10 men left on base as a team.

I looked it up: the record is 20.

Bogey (7), Moreland (6), Betts (4) and Vaz (4) had 21 between the 4 of them!

The box score shows 24. (I haven't watched the game yet- my dog is in critical condition.)

First of all, very sorry about your dog.

Individual LOB totaled 24, correct. If you scroll down further, at the end of the Batting stats you'll see the team LOB of 10.

24 is a pile, but I guarantee it's far from a record. I checked a couple of other box scores from last night and the Dodgers had 21 individual LOB in their 7-3 win over the Rays.

Gotcha. I thought 24 would be nearly impossible.

If I had just looked at the 7 hits and 8 BBs, I'd have figured it out.

Thanks.

All true. I might add that last night's 24 LOB is a tad misleading because Stroman was pretty effective those first 6 innings despite giving up 6 walks. He gave up the solo dinger to Moreland and 4 singles, and I'm guessing, because he induced a ton of ground balls, he benefited from at least 2 of the GIDP's the Sox hit into.

And just above the LOB, the more important stat. 0-8 with RISP. This and 2 Out's with RISP, most important game stats. Offensively. Edited by OH FOY!

If your team loads the bases with no outs and then strikes out 3 times in a row, your batters will get 9 LOB but the team LOB will be 3.

I get it.

Crazy stretch before we face off in London. Yanks get two more vs the O’s, 3 vs the Royals and 3 home vs the struggling Padres. You guys get 2 more in Toronto, then 3 in Houston, then 3 vs Cleveland. Now Cleveland isn’t what they were, but those Astros are good. Sox down 6 in the L column. If the Yanks roll as they should vs these chumps, the Sox could be down 8 by the time we meet
Posted

If the Sox keep the current alignment in the rotation, the Sox will throw Price-ERod-Porcello-5 spot in the 4 gamer in London.

The Yanks would counter with Happ-German-Sabathia-Tanaka

Paxton would be back by then, but if he takes over the open spot in the rotation he’ll pitch vs SD and probably won’t even make the trip to London

The Sox are now six games behind the injury riddled Yankees . This is becoming a cause for concern . We can't let this gap continue to grow . We are already starting to hear rumblings about how we can still always win a wild card . That is hardly acceptable for a championship team that won 108 games lat season . It is about time to wake up .

It's going to be a long climb back since they dug quite a hole for themselves in April. There was no way they'd be in 1st place by June. Sox are playing much better so fans need to be a little more patient at this point.

Methinks he is fully enlightened now.
