They haven't been around lately, which is good. Price is a great pitcher and I'm glad hes had this type of season. Now I just pray he has a good post-season so everyone will really shut him.

And to those who had hoped that he would have a good season and then opt out, he said that he has no intent to opt out to go to a team that has less of a chance to win that the Red Sox. He is here to stay to help us win. People will just have to suck it up and get used to having a great starting pitcher for a few more years.

Wright pitches the 8th in a 1-0 game. He also pitched the 7th and 8th in a 6-5 win last Sunday. And mvp78 doesn't want Wright on the postseason roster.

Did Price indicate that he is uncomfortable with Swihart?

Price doesn't have to say a word about it publicly. The fact that Leon is catching him every time out tells you everything you need to know - or it should.

Winning is fun.

Where are the Price bashers tonight?

I suppose i would fall in this category as i absolutely hated the Price signing and saw zero sign of a $31MM Ace the first 2 seasons of this contract. i'm on the site errryday. This year? just about every time he has had a good or great outing i have given him credit and hope that he continues to shut me up. in fact i think there is a post from me in this very game thread giving him his due. I have also stated that if he helps get us a parade this season then the contract is worth it....

Checks notes...

I'd replace Johnson with a LOOGY guy like Robby Scott. Having 3 starters (Pom/Eovaldi/Johnson) in the pen may be a bit much. I'd also think about replacing Pom with Wright if Wright comes back healthy.

Interesting...

Exactly. With Leon's hitting being virtually nonexistent, the fact that he is still starting over Swihart and Vaz speaks volumes.

In Porcello's last start, Cora was going to start Swihart, but then had second thoughts about it and went with Leon.

Having Wright coming out of the pen can be extremely effective, though it is also extremely scary.

I'd give it a chance in the in the postseason, but only starting with a clean inning, and I'd have someone else ready to go just in case.

I'd like to see Wright used as a 2-4 inning guy. Hopefully, we won't need a RP'er real early in a playoff game, but bringing him in for the 6th inning and having him complete the 8th would solve a big problem we have with set-up men for maybe 1-2 games in a series.

Wright has been way better the second time he faces a batter, so I would look for opportunities for that to happen.

.751 first time vs a batter

.634 second time

.752 third time

.858 pitches 1-25

.590 pitches 26-50

.630 pitches 51-75

about .735 afterwards

Price appears to have made a conversion that looked like it was necessary but would be pretty difficult for him to make. He is no longer a power pitcher. But he has converted to a pinpoint control pitcher and succeeds mightily when he has it and fails mightily when he doesn't. Lately its been has it more than doesn't.

That would also get Wright through everyone (or most everyone) in the lineup at least one time, giving Kimbrel the advantage of the knuckleball effect.

Hmm. I love Cora but, I don't know if I'd go that far.

Tito is the man.

I like Cora a lot, but Francona has been successful with two very different teams. Besides, who cares? We fans are lucky Henry brought in Francona in 2004, only kept Valentine a year, 2012, got three division titles and one WS out of Farrell, 2013-2017, let him go, and brought in Cora.

There is a good article on MassLive about how Price credits a 2-0 cutter that he threw for a called strike to James McCann on July 20 for propelling his second half. I found it very interesting that he remembered that specific pitch because he thought it was very well executed, and more interesting that he used that as a springboard to become a 2nd half ace.

We are indeed very fortunate as Red Sox fans. My dad has reminded me repeatedly that these (the Henry era) are great times to be Sox fans.

Interesting. For most of the season, Price and E-Rod were neck-in-neck in terms of pitching performances, and then all of a sudden Price became The Man. Sale and Price should be unbeatable in October.

I was thinking the same thing. If Sale and Price are right, I would take our 1-2 punch over any other team's. I feel good about our chances. Really good, actually.

I find it very credible because to me Price is way more comfortable throwing variations on his fast ball. I think he basically has abandoned the slider and curve but will still throw a changeup. I like lots of movement, but Price makes a strong case for his way.

Stunning numbers--not just that they are revealing, but that you found them. I did kind of have the impression he needs time--pitches--to get the knuckler working right.

Don't forget your other comment that pitchers who follow Wright benefit because the hitters' timing will often be off. You could almost make a case for Wright pitching the first two innings or practically any other innings. The big caveat is that it has to be working--it must move and not be way out of the zone.

I think Cora needs to build a dinasty in Boston first based on rings.

Said that, Cora has made a terrific job thus far. Seems like his style is more vanguardist —based on a lot of advanced stats and technology.

'Vanguardist' - I like that word.
