Sox offense hasn't arrived in Toronto yet.

Seems like the NYY hang over is still in effect.

There are published stats and I used to keep track of one or two umps per season that I particularly just hated. But somebody would have to be diligent enough to create a spread sheet and record the ump tracking material season by season and I just don't have the energy for it. Nobody publishes the year over year data, just current year.My general impression though is that they are worse. Just as many of them running around with rotten attitudes and more of them running around that are flat incompetent.

The era of electronic strike and ball calling is coming and soon. One could put an ear plug in the umpire or place a vibrator in his hand and have it feed back calls to him while he stands behind the plate to handle other issues like tipped balls, etc. I tend to be old school, but when I see umpires with variability behinnd the plate and when the electronics have progressed to where they are now, it can only help the game.

On another note related note, stats are kept but don't seem to be readily available regarding hitters taking called strike three. JBJ did it in the last inning for instance. Called strike three volume doesn't necessarily relate to win percentage as the Sox took a bunch and still won the world series. I do think a hitter with a large number of called strike threes doesn't see the pitches well and maybe doesn't know his strike zone. Certainly some called strike threes are on overly generous calls by the umpire, but one would think that would average out in a similar way for all hitters so a guy who has a lot of called strike threes has a problem picking up pitches. I looked at a list from 2013 ande noticed Napoli was high on the list of called strike thees for 2013. That's the only reference I could find.

Need the offense to get something going. Getting a little late.

Despite all his walks and generally weak pitching, if the offense had scored 5 by now, it would at least look better on Drew's resume to double his win total.

Pom has not looked good all year, and he's barely improving at all.

His record in 2016 and 2017 are formidable enough to not totally give up on him, but I'm not sure how much longer a leash you can give the guy.

It would be great, if we could trade him, pay part of his contract and get back below the max luxury tax line.

There are better options. If there weren't then we keep him. But there are....a lot of them.

I actually don't know if robotic Home plate calls will ever actually happen. Fooling the ump is as much part of the game as fooling the hitter and the umps union is too strong anyway. As much as I hate bad calls, I actually do not want to see robot umps. I think if we actually saw how it changed the game, we would not like it.

Nah. So far, I think you have to tip your cap to Stroman. I still think the SOX will pull this out.

Agree completely. A bit surprised Stroh has held it together this long...but he has. Heck if this was the MFY he was pitching to he would have a zillion K's since they are always trying to lift. They would not even be getting ground balls against him.

Jays are such a wreck. Morales is a cripple. Donaldson and Tulo can't stay on the field if their life depended on it. A DP now and they get out of this with no runs.
