If the Sox want to upgrade 2B, the Tigers just DFA'd Dixon Machado.

I know Machado was only hitting .206/.263/.290, but he hasl had a .249 BABIP. On top of that, per fangraphs, he had a 25% line drive rate. Only one other player in MLB had a line drive rate of 25% or more and a BBIP of .249 or less, and that is Anthony Rizzo.

Machado also had a 32% hard hit rate, which puts him about 15th in MLB for 2B.

And naturalyy, he posts positive defensive numbers.

Best of all - he's free...

Not a bad idea.

Maybe if we started calling him Manny instead of Dixon he would rake....

I'm really scratching my head over the pressing need in some people's minds to trade for anybody right now. We have some guys toward the back end of our lineup who might even be stars playing for someone else. Outside of a few teams, ml baseball really isn't high on quality this year. Go with what we got.

I like what we got now, too. I guess when other teams start going with large upgrades, we might look for another tweak like Pearce.

I'm with you here Moon and i think that DD has excellent eye for coming up with those tweaks.

Don’t we have Brandon Phillips for second base?

Yup. I think he may have an out clause. The clock may be ticking on him.

Is there a CFer or some other OFer with good offense who can be had for Bradley and little else. He just doesn’t seem close to achieving offensive consistency.

I assume that he needs some time to work himself into shape.

That what I was wondering when they sent him to Ft Myers.

I think they may have to bring him onto the 25 man by mid-July. I am not sure.

I would hope that he had kept himself in shape while waiting for the phone to ring. That way he'd mostly need at bats to get his timing back.

I was quite happy with last night's lineup. Outfield of JDM, Mookie, Beni. DH and 1B of Pearce and Moreland. Keep Jackie as a defensive replacement.

I read an article about him just the other day. He sounded as though he was just itching to get back and that he is delighted to have this opportunity with the Boston Red Sox. I think that he still might have some life left.

The more I hear about Eovaldi, the more I think he’s gonna be on your club. The Sox have been at his last few starts. The 5 spot is a war of attrition and the 4 spot has David Price in it. You’re going to need another option in the rotation should Mr Tingles do his usual down the stretch fade.

The Rays don't deal him here. He's a Dodger, they like guys with injured history in their rotation. I expect both Machado and Nathan Eovaldi to be Los Doyers.

I don't think it's going to be a fade with Price.

He finishes the season on the DL.

The Red Sox don't need a rotation upgrade, not with Wright coming back and it sounds like B.Johnson will miss only one start. My guess is that the Red Sox are sniffing around Eovaldi to drive up the price for the Yankees, who are more desperate for a rotation upgrade.

Waiting until the deadline also gives the Sox a chance to see what Swihart does. If an upgrade is seen as necessary at that point then try to make a deal.

Maybe now that Swihart knows that he is the 2nd catcher, he will seize this opportunity and perform like we all hope that he will.

I'm pulling for the guy, as I know you are.

Would Machado even be an upgrade in Pawtucket? I don't know if that guy is really worth bringing in.

What harm does it do bringing him in? If he doesn't amount to anything, no harm done.

With the peripherals Notin posted, he's worth a shot.

There's no harm if you're bringing him in on a minor league deal. Not sure I'd bump anyone off the 40 man for him.

Well, we could try to make a 2 for 1 trade some where to free up a slot, or maybe trade or DFA one of these guys

I'd rather keep those arms to be honest ESPECIALLY SINCE OUR FARM SYSTEM IS DEPLETED AND WE'RE HEADING FOR A CLIFF.

Our farm is weak on upper level prospects, so trading 2 or 3 for an upgrade prospect or young player could help us avoid a cliff.

How the hell is Dixon Machado going to help us avoid a cliff? Dude was DFA'd by the Tigers and it's not like he has JD's hitting profile from when he was waived.
