I'd rather they held onto Beeks, but the injuries to ERod, Pom and Wright really forced their hand into making a move.

Maybe DD sold high on another prospect?

I *still* think Velazquez should be in the rotation.

I for one had seen enough of Beeks. No velocity to his fastball....which is fine if you have great command, which he lacks. The move for Eovaldi would seem to imply that the Sox think that ERod may not come back until much later on, if at all, and that Pomeranz doesn't have the confidence of the FO to get the job done, possibly due to injury.

I am good with this trade because of our health/depth concerns, but Beeks has only pitched 6.1 innings in the bigs, way too short of a sample size to conclude anything.

Per Dombrowski:

1. Johnson will make his next start tomorrow, then will go to the pen. Pom will remain in the rotation, for now.

2. The rotation for the Yankees series next week:

Thursday: Chris Sale

Friday: Rick Porcello

Saturday: Nathan Eovaldi

Sunday: David Price

Take the time? Players do not have infinite talent level. You make the best assessment you can. He did not miss bats in his big league trials - and he was outstanding in AAA. He might be a 4A sort of guy. Moreover - a guy like him (command guy, doesn't miss a lot of bats) will probably play up in Tampa.

My thoughts exactly. Unless Beeks is going to grow an arm to add power then he will need to be a Scott Maddox kind of guy. they just aren't that easy to come by nor are they easy to develop. Just another good move.

Bummer. What day are you going?

Friday. I was considering going on Saturday, too, especially if Sale was playing. We are travelling up on Thursday though, so no chance of making that one.

Happy to watch the team whoever is pitching obviously, but especially when The Man is playing. :)

Eovaldi is only 28. This may turn out to be a steal for the SOX.

28 with only a few months on the contract though, right?

he sounds pretty happy to be in boston. My guess is that with any kind of success he gets resigned easily although that really isn't much of a concern.

It seems like we rarely sign our rentals. If true, it's because free agents tend to get overpaid... but it does depend on the market.

Eovaldi has also had two tommy john surgeries.

i mentioned the two tomies earlier. I think that we tend not to resign our rentals who aren't worth resigning. Maybe he will be worth it and maybe he won't be but the people crying over losing prospect Beeks are people who just want to cry over anything DD does. If the organization really felt that Beeks was worth keeping sometime down the line, he would still be in Boston.

I seem to dislike this trade more than anybody here and I've never said anything negative about a DD move before, so that statement definitely isn't true.

and you are probably right - If you haven't been crying over any of DD's work, then obviously I wasn't referring to you. The statement is definitely true just not in reference to you I guess. Have you not noticed a general tone from various posters constantly questioning and often criticizing Dombrowski for just about any move that he has made?

That's too bad about not being able to see Sale, but it will still be an awesome game, I'm sure. Enjoy!

Who? I can't think of a single poster that has got on DD for not making a move and then got on him for this one. Who did this?

As long as its a win I don't care who's out there. Thanks :)

Here we go again. it is just my perception I guess Hitch. You've caught me again I guess. I will gladly retract my statement. I have not read one time on here obviously about "desperate Dave" selling off the farm to win now. Nor do I have any reason to believe that he is at all concerned with the state of our current farm system. he just keeps giving away all of our prospects.

I'm not sure why you're so defensive over the question. You made a statement saying that there were people who criticised him both for not making trades and for making this one. I simply asked who?

There are clearly quite a few people who think DD has traded away too many prospects. That's a different issue, however.

I think DD has trded away too many prospects. But I never really considered Jalen Beeks a prospects, so this latest move doesn't bother me at all...

I'm very defensive and sensitive too. I do not think that we are talking two separate issues here though. The "Quite a few People" to whom you refer are the people I am referring to. Some on occasion tend to be a little nasty when discussing DD's moves. I have nothing to gain at all about naming anyone's name. Now I know what the obvious come back to this statement is - well what about all of the negative crap said about DD's predecessor? - I'm not one of those people. Don't rain on my parade here too much Hitch. I post here just for something to do. I get my morning laughs here from all of the ******** that gets slung around. When I start getting called out for slinging a little of my own, I likely will find something else to do. very defensive aren't I.

I certainly have noticed this.

It's the usual clique.

I know - right. I guess now we have to identify all people who say things that we seem to disagree with or that we might even see as being stupid. Is "someone" trying to turn this forum into an institute of higher learning? Do we have to now "quantify" all statements that we make?

The fact that you are being challenged in this is pretty funny.

I think DD traded away too much of the farm and overpaid at times, but overall, I'm very happy with the totality of his moves.

I love the team we have now, and while I've been critical of a few of DD's moves (highly critical, at times), I'm glad he's our GM.

Replacing JF with Cora took balls. That move, alone cancels out a bad move or two. Plus, he got

Chris Freakin' Sale!

He may ultimately be judged by how he handles the closing window, especially if we don't win a ring in the next 2 years.

You don't have to quantify anything, but expect to be picked up on your posts and have discussion about them....seeing as it's... well... a discussion forum.

Make all the sweeping statements you want. All I did was ask who these people are as I haven't seen anyone fall into both the two groups you mentioned.

Whereas I'm okay with nearly all the moves DD has made but don't like giving up Beeks for a 2 month rental. God knows what group I fit in.

I have to file this one as something I’ve been saying DD needs to do. He managed to get more pitching depth without (in my opinion) depleting the farm much. I’ve even mentioned Beeks specifically as trade fodder...

i don't mind Beeks going, but i thought maybe there was more value to get with him, than just a rental. Maybe I'm underselling Eovaldi.

While I shouldn’t be lumped in for complaining about all DD deals, although I have about a few (but not this one), this post absolutely HAS to be about me...
