He's just fine anywhere we put him in a pinch.

Short term, I agree. He has his uses.

He's a role player, and while his role is pretty wide, he is still best used in his role...

I agree, and that's why that's his role. I feel comfortable putting him nearly anywhere in the field for a short period of time. If he were good enough to have a position of his own on this team he'd be filling it. Instead he's almost good enough to play any position as a regular. IMO having a player like him is a luxury.

Lol.

Now wait a few so someone can post a few reams of of superfluous data that de-legitimizes your OPINION.

Exactly right. He is the consummate utility guy who more often than not does some good. He can in fact play 4 infield and 3 outfield positions with a modicum of skill, he can sometimes hit and/or bunt and/or get a walk, and he's not bad on the basepaths. I am not, repeat not, a big Holt fan, but can see why Cora has him on the roster.

Starting Pitching 2016-17 Post Season

23IP 28ER Priceless!

The great Porcello 7IP 7ER and we are supposed to think this Staff again in 2018 will win a ring? Dombrowski missed the boat on Verlander and Cole. Will he make the same mistake this deadline?

Make the call on Odorizzi Hamels (depending on vesting option?) Fullmer, Harvey, Wheeler, Ross and maybe the great Kershaw. Tax strapped is a beautiful thing ain't it my friends

You can’t afford Hamels. The Twins are still in it in the central and their ace is returning soon. You don’t have the prospects for Fulmer. Outside of a Jaime Garcia type, your rotation will be filled internally

He did. Interestingly, so did Cashman. Cashman is so cheap with his prospects. He had a chance to get Cole in the offseason and only offered the crappy C.Adams and bust C.Frazier. Of course, the Pirates turned down the trade. Maybe if Cashman offered something fair like Sheffield and Andujar he could have acquired Cole. Stupid Cashman--if he can't squeeze a team to death, he doesn't make the deal.

The Astros have a better front office than the Yankees and Red Sox IMO.

As long as Price stays healthy, the Yankees are more desperate for a SP than the Red Sox. Moreover, the Red Sox have J.Beeks in AAA, a guy who is ready for the major leagues.

I said it three starts ago: send Pomeranz to the bullpen, see if he can flourish as a one inning reliever (and regain some of his lost velocity). Wright should move into the rotation. By starting Pomeranz tonight, the Red Sox basically gave the game away.

I have to agree.

I also think Johnson looks much better as a starter than a reliever, whereas Velazquez and Wright seem pretty good at relieving. But yeah, there's that Beeks guy in AAA that is very impressive. It's a tough call! I don't think you can go wrong with choosing any of those 4 over Pomeranz to take the #5 spot in the rotation.

So, bottom line is 'when does Wright tahe Pomeranz's spot?'

Should be next turn in the rotation? Pomeranz has only had an ERA under 6.75 in two of his starts. His FIP is 1.50 lower than his ERA, so he should "regress" a little, but he still just sucks right now.

If they can't get Pom on the DL, I'd put him in the pen, DFA Johnson and call up Beeks to start. Wright can continue to be long reliever (I just don't like Wright every fifth day because you have to worry about rain and other knuckleball nonsense, which could be better monitored in a long relief role).

You truly are a moron. “Bust” Frazier is killing it in AAA and is only down there due to depth.

I hope to god he's doing well in AAA, it's only his third year there.

He’s 23 years old. In most systems, he’s a big leaguer, but we have such tremendous depth that he sticks at AAA. Next year is his year. I foresee Gardner moving on and Clint being installed as the LFer

I don't know about time's up because I'm fine with whatever Cora decides.

But, as far as I am concerned, the one thing Pom has done this season is prove himself. He has always relied way too much on his below average fastball and knuckle curve, and he must be the only lefty starter in MLB who basically does not have a changeup. What we have seen this year--in my opinion, anyway--is the real Pomeranz. Even on a good day when he is really on, he has to nibble, nibble, nibble and consequently rarely goes beyond 6 innings. Last year he started 32 games and pitched 173.2 innings--a tad over 5.1 innings per start.

Yes, it's a given that the team will make more intelligent and more patient decisions than the fans. :)

The thing is, that's what he always was. He made a career out of getting into - and out of - trouble. The trouble is that this year he's not getting out. That's why he has a career ERA of just under 4.00 and this year he's just under 7.00.

When he gets out of his own trouble he's a serviceable #3-4 but when he can't he's a candidate for being DFA'd. I do still think it's early to be giving up on him. He did after all miss ST.

i agree with this. but it seems like everyday is a pinch and he will get exposed.

Approx 300 years of observance/coaching vs a year and a 1/3 of coaching/managing for Cora?
