I'll let Cora figure it out, thanks.

I mean, we do have some smart baseball people here, but you also notice how much they tend to disagree with each other.

Hmm... naw, I never noticed that.

Benintendi

Betts

Bogaerts

Bradley

Devers

Leon

Martinez

Pedroia

Ramirez

If Moreland is in for Ramirez, he bats 8th and Pedroia ninth.

If Vasquez catches, he bats 9th.

I got this from the Bill James chapter on building lineups.

Pedey is not very fast and probably not a base stealing threat any more. Having Betts and Beni up front is working, at least for now, so why change that. Pedey at 6th or 7th sounds about right for the time being until we see that he can do more.

I agree with leaving Betts and Beni at one and two, and I'm good with batting Pedroia 6th, at least initially. I could see Pedroia batting 3rd too and moving Hanley to 6th.

I know this is crazy, but ...

1) JDM, DH

2) Betts, RF

3) Beni, LF

4) Bogey, SS

5) Moreland / HamRam, 1B

6) Devers, 3B

7) Pedey, 2B

8) Leon / Vazquez, C

9) JBJ, CF

It's actually not that crazy.

And batting order means so little anyway....

I know that is how you see it and probably you can bring reams of backup to that conclusion but tonight we have a cold Hanley hitting after our table setters. What happened seemed predictable. Bases loaded with no one out, Hanley hits into a double play. We wind up with only 1 run instead of breaking the game open. I would have rested Hanley and when I returned him it would be out of the critical 3rd hole. Hope we don't lose this one due to the reluctance to sit a player.

By the way, I decided to drop of the in game tread. Lots of good people there but also very vulgar and stupid posts that turned me totally off.

That's really too bad. I can't blame you. Being a guy who just hangs out in the game thread I love when you bottom of the webpage people show up.

Come on back. SC30 has been banned for a while. And as far as Natick goes, I have him on ignore, but that feature allows you to see each post individually, but only if you want to - which I do occasionally. It's working for me.

Heck of a game tonight with most of the hits coming from the bottom of the order. Even though no hits, our table setters did their job getting on base 5 times. Unfortunately Hanley was unable to get the job done yet again tonight and left 5 men on base. I believe the 3 hole is a critical RBI slot and Hanley is in a prolonged slump right now. Moreland is still hitting and would have been my choice, especially with a right hand starter. The Rays have a tough pitching staff and I would blame no one for having a tough night against them, but I still think we need to put our best foot forward in these situations.

We can thank the Rays for giving us a 2 base error and for Bogie to come through with a double at the critical time. He is a cool guy. They the Rays pitching and defense gave us insurance runs. Meanwile the Yankees are behind giving up 12 runs at last count. Texas is pounding Yankee pitching.

Hanley has indeed been frustrating, I can't argue with that. I'm a big Hanley fan, and right now, even I don't understand Cora playing Hanley over Moreland. Moreland is currently better than Hanley in all facets of the game.

I completely understand about the game threads. I used to post in game threads (not here) during practically every game, but it got to the point where I just couldn't stomach it anymore.

Yeah, I guess we could solo-HR our way to another WS. /s/

And now the decision to release Hanley has been made, the lineup discussions have a new meaning. I was for batting Pedey back at 6th or 7th while he gets reacclimated and we see what he can do. Now it looks like JDM is the DH and Moreland is the 1st baseman. So it may be that Pedey plays every other day for a while and Nunez (who is starting to hit) subs there in the off days. I can see Bogey moving to 3rd in the lineup. At any rate here is my current expected lineup.

Betts

Beni

Bogey

JDM

Moreland

Pedey/Nunez

Devers

Leon/Vaz

JBJ

I think DD has more in mind for the Sox based on the money freed up by DFAing Hanley. Pitching, CF, Catcher. We shall see!

Always liked Pedey, hope all his injuries are behind him. Makes Sox a better team.

Don't worry, all of his previous injuries are in the past. It's the future injuries you have to worry about.

Betts is perfect leading off. Pedroia can hit 7th for now and maybe 3rd once he's back to normal.

In a lengthy interview on Barstool yesterday Pedroia said that he does not care where he bats and expects to bat 6th or 7th initially.

That's a relief...

Cora likes Betts and Beni as 1-2. They can run and hit shots. We're missing a bat to pair with JD. Get that bat and Betts can stay lead off for LIFE. Devers got potential, someday.

If initially is code for permanently I'm all for it !!!

I'm totally fine with betts up first.

My beef is with Beni, especially vs LHPs.

I'd bat Bogey 2nd FT, but at the very least vs LHPs.

Pedey will likely never win back the 2 slot.

I would slot Pedroia in the 3 hole, taking over Hanley's spot. From what I've read though, it sounds like Cora doesn't plan to bat Pedroia higher than 6th to begin with.
