Rather see the Yanks at the bottom of the pack and a team to step on. Looks like that won't be the case this year. Oh well, bring it.

Might be different if Hembree never was born.

Who cares. The whole pen was a walk the world pen last year and it is this year. Big surprise...I just don't know who should be surprised.

We won one, should won another and could’ve won one more. We played well against the hottest team in baseball. Again in first place.

Good night!

I'm surprised because I thought the Red Sox staff had the fourth-least amount of walks out of all 30 MLB teams.

Love these two teams are at the top again ...this summer will be incredible

Yup...hate to admit it, but the Yankees have a very good team this year and it will take a great deal of luck for us to win the ALE again. Luck and guys performing to their capabilities.

Are you listening Price?

Yep, and our pen allowed 3.03 BB/9 which was 5th best in MLB and just 0.10 from 3rd place.

15 teams were over 3.50.

So basically, this is nowhere near a "walk the world" pen, and is in fact very close to the exact opposite?

No, he can’t.

He has not learned the value of an unexpressed thought.

LOL :0 As my old man always said, "J, better to say very little & have some think your ignorant, than say a lot and confirm their suspicions."

80 years old, and the old bastard is still shoving that saying up my arss. :0 LOL

p.s. my second favorite of his admonitions / back handed jibes?

"J, The great thing about you is that you'ah a doah! The paht you need to work on, is that most of the stuff you do should never have been attempted in the first place."

f***er! At least I finally figured out what he means by "can't win for losin..." :0 LOL

Well what we are really worried about is getting to kimbrel right. We are not concerned with the whole staff in bb/9 nor even the whole pen. There is only 1 AL closer that is better than Kimbrel in bb/9 and that is Osuna at 1.3 for 2017. Kimbrel pulled a 1.8. Nobody else even gets below 2.0 and most closers in the AL are closer to 3.0.

Clevland had the best pen in the AL last year. Closer had a good bb/9. The entire pen had a good bb/9. Their pen has a better bb/9 than ours as does the Angels pen. Twins and Sox pens were about tied for 3/4 for bb/9 in 2017. While Osuna pulled a 1.3 the rest of the Toronto pen did not pull a decent bb/9 in 2017. The point is that if you pull Kimbrel out of our bb/9 and pull the other closers out of the other pens, we probably fall to 5th in the AL, maybe 6th and our problem is not Kimbrel as long as we keep him closing only. Our problem is getting to Kimbrel after the closer leaves. That is not a great standing for a contending team still reliant on pitching. Still upper 3rd of the league for pen bb/9 but just barely.

What I love about this team is they always make a comeback. They got back to tied but a Yankee Stadium HR and continue stupidity from Boone put us out for the count. I have said multiple times on this site that Boone needs to limit Betances to a single inning. Every time he has gone multiple innings, Betances has coughed up runs in the second inning. Betances has gone past a full inning 3 times. In those innings, he has allowed 6ER in 2.0IP with 2 losses with runs allowed each time. In the first 3 outs of a Betances outing, he’s got a 2.76ERA. Maybe, one day, our manager will learn

Meh. You guys took 2 of 3 with a better bullpen, period. Your ace Severino couldn't beat our dogsbody Pom in game 1. In game 2 our ace gave up 5, but we still took a 6 -5 lead into the 8th. Last night ERod, who has struggled, made mincemeat of Sabathia and the Yankees lineup. Last night you got 4 runs on 5 singles and 7 walks.

The vaunted Yankee lineup was good in just the middle game. The Yankees rotation was terrific as long as Severino was on the mound, period.

His head operates like a gumball machine. Anything that forms up in the top comes rolllllling out the bottom.

See, you're still ragging hard on Boone even with such a great record. Just like many Sox fans have been ragging on Cora.

E-rod allow 1 hit last night. He had good stuff, but his control is preventing him from being on another level. He's still only 25, so we can cautiously expect him to have some good seasons ahead. He also chews up the Yanks.

Man, if E-Rod just gets consistent. Does real good against a good hitting line-up, and never consistent enough against lesser line-ups. He really could be something special.

It’s a recurrent mistake that Boone keeps making

Sometimes I have an issue with Betances going 2 innings but last night I was fine with it.

Who would we bring in to face JD Martinez? Shreve? Cole? Hale? Robertson wasn't going to come in unless it was a save/fireman situation. Betances made a good pitch but JD got just enough to loop it into the first row of the short porch. s*** happens. Betances still went on to retire everyone else in pretty dominant fashion so it's not like he was a mess in his second inning.
