It’s not an encouraging match up.

Pomeranz vs current NY line up is 304/370/478/848

... but what worries me more is how New York is hitting and how Pom has pitched this season.

On the bright side he has lost only 1 game in his last 5 starts vs NY and has a GmSc of 41(L), 51(W) & 54(W) in his last three starts in Yankee Stadium.

If we take this game, we win the series.

Yankees definitely have huge advantage in the pitching matchup. Hopefully Pom can at least be decent and keep Yankees offense in check.

This entire series doesn't line up that well for us in the pitching department. Win. Dance. Repeat. x4

Severino is 2-5 with a 4.82 ERA against the Sox (worst ERA against any team with 3+ starts). Severino feasts on teams below .500 and has a losing record against teams above .500.

If there was ever a game to win its tonight. This series has me nervous. Will truly show what Boston is made of. Drew can’t get off to a slow start like he has. Need at least 6 solid innings from him to have a chance. A slow start from him will kill any chance at winning.

5 of Severino's 7 starts this season have come against teams over .500 (BOS, TOR x2, LAA, HOU)

In those starts, he is 3-1 (the one loss against the Sox of course). He has averaged 6 2/3 innings per start with a 2.41 ERA and 9.9Ks per 9 innings.

Just throwing that out there for reference

He has an ERA of 9.00 against the Sox this year.

Meh. I think Cora should attend the pregame meeting with the umpire holding a white flag or other peace offering. There is no way, no how Pom can outpitch Severino. He's pitching only because John Henry is paying him $10M this year. I wanted Cora to use the off day to move up the next pitcher, but unfortunately it's David Price. Their combined WAR so far this year is +.1.

The 14-1 game I went to at Fenway? Sale vs Severino. Yes, it was cold. Yes, the Yankees weren't on fire. Yes, most of the runs came off errors/bullpen. But, we can hit Severino. We knocked him around that night.

The only way we win tonight is if Pom is fully back in form and Severino has at least a bit of a relapse from what he's typically shown in almost all his outings this season.

I like Pom better vs the earlier Yanks when they were a left-side dominated team... now the power is on the right-side... not fun at all for all of our lefty starters. No doubt this was part of the motivation to go after Stanton.

We need to jump on Severino quickly.

NYY will have 7 righty bats in their lineup tonight. Pomeranz actually does throw a changeup, but my guess is we won't see much of it.

The good news is that Pom did go 6 innings his last time out, but it was against KC who rank 27th in runs scored. He has also pitched decently at Yankee Stadium, ERA 3.12.

A700hitter has a good thought: jump on Severino early.

Interesting the Sox have committed 16 errors and the Yanks have committed 25 errors so far this season.

Of those 16 errors, 8 are by Devers and 3 by Vazquez and Bogaerts (Nunez and Porcello also have 1 each).

1. Mookie Betts ® RF

2. Andrew Benintendi (L) LF

3. Hanley Ramirez ® 1B

4. J.D. Martinez ® DH

5. Xander Bogaerts ® SS

6. Rafael Devers (L) 3B

7. Eduardo Nunez ® 2B

8. Jackie Bradley Jr. (L) CF

9. Christian Vazquez ® C

Nobody had put up the lineup yet. So I thought I would. While I really have always liked JBJ, this looks like a slug-fest game to me unless suddenly Pom grows an arm. JBJ seems even more lost than usual at present. Where is Moreland the way he is hitting?

Is it just me or this series vs NYY is probably the most expected for the fans and the media in several years —considering both teams are the best in baseball.

Definitely. I haven’t been this pumped for a series this early in a long time.
