Neither Holt or Pedroia are likely to fit with this new team. I don't see either one gettin much playing. Nunex, Linn, Devers, Bogaerts. Two of the first three of that bunch is more than enough.

Who is going to sit down with Pedroia and talk about the realities of baseball. Pedroia would never go for the aggressive baseball the Sox are playing. And winning with. He has slowed in the field as well as at the plate. What would you do? Play hi, anyway? Send Linn back to the minors? Trafe Nunez? Fat chance!

Once healthy, Pedroia will play. Lin will get demoted. There will be injuries. Lin will return.

It's a good problem to have....

Amidst all this discussion about our players being injured - Pedey, Thornburg. Bogaerts, Price &, Mookie to a lesser degree, something that seems to be somewhat overlooked is that this team is 13-2 without them. Does anyone really think the Sox would be 14-1 or 15-0 with them?? How much do they actually bring to the team?

They will make a difference over the next 147 games.

We are bound to hit a rough patch or two before the season is over. Hopefully, the infusion of these players coming off the DL will help minimize our future losses.

I've already seen several plays not made by Nunez that would be routine for Pedey.

Does anyone NOT remember how Pedey carried this team with his bat last season? Do you forget the hundreds of spectacular plays he made last season?

IF Pedey can come back strong, this will be a great problem to have. Has anyone noticed Nuner run the bases all out. He's still running full out on one leg, and skipping on the bad one.

I could not be happier with Lin. He deserves to stay! I LOVE Nuner!

Will Pedey go along with whatever style of play he is asked to? Absolutely!

I think that is a great thing for this group going forward. There are certainly some guys that you listed here who are anxious to get back for sure and when they are healthy they make a difference. In the meantime the others are proving that there is something to this concept of depth. You and i understand that there is something to this idea of teams learning to win. Good things come from role players understanding what it takes and just getting the job done.

I agree. Pedey led the Red Sox in batting average last year and played great defense. I like Nunez but he's better suited as a utility guy. His defense at second base isn't great, specifically talking about his range. It's disappointing how some fans have seemed to turn on Pedey. He'll be fine. He likes Cora, so there will be no drama. Pedey will do what he does best -- simply go out and play baseball without drama.

That’s your dilemma, not the Sox.

I would love to see Pedroia come back as the Pedroia of 2016 or 2017. But I'm not optimistice. I have no doubts about his getting in the lineup when he's healthy. It's what he can or can't do anymore that Iam concerned about. Cora is not going to go along for ever if Pedroia is hittin ,220 after a month or so. I believe he is very close to being done.

With the Sox at 13 - 2 , some folks are desperately searching for things to worry about.

I know!

13-2 and Pom, Pedey, Bogey, Wright, Poyner, Thornburg and others joining the 25 man roster soon or at some point.

I think Nunez will be lucky to last the season. The knee is clearly bothering him and by June, it should be swelled up and causing him discomfort.

Pedroia is only good for 80 to 90 games a season before he breaks down. Add in that he fractured the locker room last year and provides no veteran leadership and you could have a team chemistry problem once he returns.

I really like Lin’s swing and plan of attack at the plate. I think he becomes a huge utility player for us this year.

Our crack medical staff cleared Nunez for a 2 year deal.

Pedroia is a better defender than Nunez, he will be welcomed back. Who says Pedroia wouldn't be okay with the "aggressive approach"? You just speculating?

I LOVE Nuner, and aggressively advocated for his re-signing!

The guy is a gamer! LOVE HIM! But he is hardly 100%. Pedey is 10 times the 2nd baseman! NO exaggeration!

Pedey, while beat to s***, is also a better hitter, and I consider Nuner a + hitter.

This ******** about Pedey not "going with the new program," is pure fantasy! He IS THE ULTIMATE Red Sox Gamer!

Sure, he may have made some mistakes in dealing with the clubhouse last season. Who the f*** wouldn't? It was disfunctional! Completely disfunctional!

Every time I think the little guy is done, he proves me wrong! Make me an idiot in 2018 Pedey! You are a dirtdog amongst lesser dirtdogs!!!

Lin has been called up twice now and excelled both times. I'm not saying he'll continue at this clip, but I don't think Holt will give you more over an entire season. Or is Holt out of options or something?

Holt has one more option.

Some say dilemma.

Some say depth.

I do hope Holt starts smacking the cover off the ball and creates (or maintains?) some trade value.

I would, too, but I'm not sure how much a month (or even longer) long hot or cold streak really affects a player's value.

Couldn’t hurt. ;)

I think part of any trade value with guys like Holt are inevitable injuries any team may have as the season slogs on. Plus he seems to have fully recovered from the concussion/vertigo stuff that has recently plagued his career. Has an option left (hard to believe). A little payroll relief and a player to be named later sounds about right in a perfect scenario.

Most people believe Pedey is an improvement defensively at 2nd that he has always been a very good hitter. While age and injuries may slow him down a little, I at least expect him to be an asset and to play in 90+ games this year. We are fortunate to have resigned Nunez to fill the void. I agree that he is a solid ML hitter and has the flexibility to play multiple positions. The hope is that he knee will not cause him and us problems along the way. If there is a decision to be made it is who is sent down when Bogaerts returns and then who else goes down when Pedey gets back. Maybe someone else goes don the DL in that time frame and it becomes a non problem, but of our current utility players it looks like Nunez is a lock and Swihart has a lot of value, and it is in between Lin and Holt for who goes down to the minors. Lin is younger, faster and is a better utility infielder, he is also hitting pretty well for now, but who knows for how long. Holt could play outfield as well as infield so is a little more flexible. I would choose Lin but the FO may see it differently.

I hope that Swihart starts to see a little more playing time if for no other reason then to justify the roster spot. He has talent the question is how and where to use it I guess. I like having a gloveman like Lin around just to help us defensively. If he keeps playing and hitting, it is going to be tough to send him back.

Nunez is a better OF choice than Holt or Lin, and we also have JMart, Swihart and Moreland who can play LF, so Holt's ability to play the OF is not a big factor.

I doubt Lin can sustain his hitting, but it sure has been nice.

If Pedroia is healthy he is still one of the league's top handful of second basemen. It has been the health which has been the problem (and is completely worth worrying about). His approach works for him - it's just that he has not had many chances to do it. If he's healthy he plays.

Nunez - they can find the PAs for him among a lot of positions. Holt would be a DFA candidate possibly.

If we need to save a little money, we could trade Holt, assuming there's a taker. If not, I think we will just send him to AAA, in case someone gets hurt.

Yes, Nunez can play a lot of positions.

2B

3B

LF (If we sit JBJ or Betts, Nunez can play LF and others are shifted around)

SS

That's 6 positions.

If Cora really wants to sit players a lot, then I can see Nunez playing 4 or 5 games out of 6. He can easily get 500-600 PAs, even if nobody else gets hurt from here on out.

I think that if anything we may have an excess of good players, maybe a few more than what constitutes normal depth. This will soon be true in the relief staff, and is already true with players like Swihart and perhaps Lin. Swihart should definitely be seeing more action (somewhere else if not here) and Lin looks like he at least belongs on the team. And, or course, Pedey's return will accentuate this.

I would say it's more a problem for a few players than it is a team problem.
