Fewest wins for a Cy Young pitcher is 2 (Eric Gagne, 2003). Plenty of pitchers have on the award with fewer than 10 wins. All of them have been closers.

 

For a starting pitcher, the fewest wins is 13 (Felix Hernandez, 2010)...

Meh. I just want him to pitch well and he has done so. Run support is because he often goes against the other team’s best starter, which was the case today.

You basically need 4 months with 3 wins and 2 months with 4 wins. If he gets a win in each of his next two starts he'll be back on track; April would be a 3 win month with that.

This. While its cool if Sale has 20 wins, Cy Young, etc. Id rather he dominate in playoffs and the team win.

Voters are smarter about not chasing wins than they used to be. Felix won the Cy with 13 wins, and Zack Greinke won it with 16 wins on a 65 win team. Atrocities like the Welch over Clemens Cy Young is far less likely than it used to be.

Unlike our other starters, Sale doesn't seem to get behind, so hitters don't screw up their high caliber performance. This is no big problem I'm sure, and nobody said it was. But the same Sale no-run pattern was around last year at least during certain stretches.

 

I find it's an interesting observation, one that doesn't pretend to be, or have to be, all that important.

 

PS yup was around for some of the "clutch debate" and I do believe in clutch more than some here, but I get both sides.

Everybody wants to see our guy get those wins especially when you probably are talking about one of the top 5 pitchers in baseball. My guess though is that what matters to Chris Sale is that his team wins. He is tough, talented and a great teammate. I am absolutely thrilled that we have him on this team.
