Yeah I'm surprised it's taken so long. But all for the best, Austin has been on a tear:

.305/.379/.661 (OPS of 1.040, OPS+ 178)

Bird might not have a spot when he comes back if this lasts.

Made a heck of a catch on a foul ball last night. The kid can play.

It's official. Kelly's appeal was denied and he's going to serve a six game suspension.

The suspension starts today and he'll be eligible next Wednesday

TORONTO -- The Red Sox will be without a key bullpen arm until Wednesday, as right-hander Joe Kelly's appeal of his six-game suspension was denied by Major League Baseball.Kelly's suspension started on Thursday night, the finale of a three-game series against the Blue Jays and a nine-game road trip.Kelly received

There's something wrong with this. Austin goes after Holt's leg, Holt says something to Austin and Austin gets in Holt's face for saying something. Kelly then drills Austin and gets a longer suspension than Austin did.

Apparently Austin got a free pass for going after Holt's leg.

f***ing Yankee Joe Torre playing Baseball God again. Ugh.

Austin still effectively gets more games. He's suspended for 4 games and would have likely played all 4 games. Kelly is suspended for 6 but as a reliever he'd probably only pitch in 2-3 of them.

IMO, regardless of how many games it technically is, the reduction of Austin's suspension while Kelly's was not reduced is a message sent to the Red Sox that they were more in the wrong.

I think it's bogus.

Evidently, after the appeal results were announced, Kelly tweeted "At least take me to dinner first".

Thanks Joe T!

I have a new found admiration for Kelly.

I approve of what he did to Austin.

I think Kelly is partially f***ed in the head so I like him even more.

I was chatting with Jared Carabis two days ago. I suggested that he have Kelly on as a guest on one of his vlogs or such. He said Kelly is booked to be on his Tenth Inning show when the Sox invade NYC.

I hope that I remember to look for and see this show.

Kelly hit the batter, threw at him earlier in the at bat and gestures for him to charge. I’d say he was the instigator

But only if you ignore the cheap slide that started it.

You have to ignore the totally legal slide when meting out punishment

There wasn't one.

That's where the entire incident started. Austin went after Holt's leg - the video using the angle from LF shows it clearly - and Holt said something, taking exception to it. Austin then came at Holt and apparently words were exchanged. Again, if you look at the video you'll see that Austin didn't just saunter over toward Holt, it was clear from his body language that he took exception to whatever Holt said and "wanted to make something of it".

That was where it started.

I'm aware that as a fan of the Yankees you think that because these players are YANKEES they're entitled to do anything they want to do and everyone else needs to shut up about it. Unfortunately for everyone else in the league Joe Torre (who wears a pinstriped suit to work every day) supports that. As long as Torre is in charge of handing out punishments things aren't going to change but it makes the Yankees a real easy team to hate.

Slide wasn't legal. He slid past the bag. You can't do that anymore. If the ball was thrown to 1st, we would have seen what the umps thought of the slide. However, no challenge could be made because no thrown was made.

Anyone who thinks that was a clean and legal slide is:

1) Blind.

2) A f***ing idiot.

3) Knows jack s*** about baseball and it's rules.

4) A liar.

5) A Yankees fan.

6) Any combination of any of the above.

That is way, way over the top. But I happen to agree.

Clean? No.

Legal? Possibly, I'll need to check the Constitution

That's a great picture and one that settles the entire issue of "clean and legal". I hadn't seen it. Thanks.

Don't know why I'm diving back into this...

Austin obviously slid with his cleats up. But if you see the video, Austin's leg only gets pulled to the side of the bag after his cleat gets stuck on Holt's pants as Holt is moving his leg away from the bag. So the order of operations for you math nerds is that 1) he cleats him near the bag, 2) cleat gets stuck on Holt, 3)Holt moves leg, 4) stuck cleat gets pulled as Holt moves

I'm not defending Austin for sliding cleats up. This isn't the 80's anymore and the unwritten rules are different now. But it's not like it was some egregious act.

Haha, good one Kelly!

I thought they way that he moved around the crowd during one of the games of his suspension was awesome.

I've never had an issue with him to begin with. I like him even more now.

A biased opinion, for sure.

You guys are funny. The slide may have been dirty, but it was legal.

Nope. Can’t slide through the bag since the neighborhood play isyallowed anymore.
