Kelly just isn't the kind of guy you screw with in the bar.

Ever been in a bar fight?

If not, you're probably not qualified to make that statement.

I have - one - for me that was more than enough.

His trolling is not random at all!

He isn't trolling. He is just stating his opinion, one which many of us disagree with, in a respectful way.

Then it also qualifies that if you haven't played or coached, which you've admitted that you haven't, you're not qualified to make statements regarding baseball.

As CBS Sportsline baseball writer R.J. Anderson wrote:

Austin did slide in with his foot up. That said, it wasn't the worst we'll see -- not this month, maybe not this week. I probably would've forgotten about it had the Red Sox not decided to hit him. I'm not a fan of beanballs -- there's just too much that can go wrong there, and it makes ballplayers look ridiculous even when they go "right" -- so I'm not too keen on what Kelly did.

I respect Brock Holt for not being whiny like many Red Sox fans and for issuing an apology for his limited role:

He spiked my leg. He cut it pretty good. I probably said something I shouldn’t have to start the whole thing, so I’m sorry for that. I just wanted him to know that it was a bad slide, and I think everyone on the field knows that it was.

Tyler Austin did nothing to earn my respect.

And neither did Joe Kelly.

But I respect a divergence of opinions.

So, then we can't say for sure if Kelly intentionally hit Austin.

Edit: But the league was certain enough about Kelly's intent that they leveled a 6 game suspension.

Quite easily, the most ridiculous false equivalence post you've managed to conjure up.

"On" weed?

From a movie (Half Baked). I don’t know why these last page of comments reminded me of it.

Can't slip anything by you.

I was in one in London once. A classmate and I staged one where we loudly argued over which nuclear physicist made more significant contributions to the field. We upended a yelled at each other about Lawrence vs. Rutherford, upended a table, which spilled some drinks and broke the glasses, and quickly ran like Hell out of there (laughing the whole way).

Ah, drunken geek humor....

Lol. Don't know that quote and have never heard anyone use the phrase.

Now if you had said "High as Balls" or High as f***", or even "Yeah he already knows" I would know what was being said!

Throwing a baseball as hard as you can 60’6” to a 17” wide box is not the same as sliding into a base. But you know that.

Once again, I am not disagreeing with you.

I'm just saying that his intent is not a fact, it's an opinion.

There is no equivalence at all, never mind a false equivalence, knucklehead.

This is correct.

I have been. I used to go to a place that when the brawls broke out they used to hit a buzzer that locked the door. It wasn't a good feeling when that happened. If you started the trouble, you knew that you were going to soon have a problem an it was going to hurt.

This is correct.
And at his appeal, Kelly should say, "but you can say for certain if I threw at him." To which the reply will be "yeah sure, suspension is upheld."

Sounds like a fire code violation

Same thing that happens in court all the time. Unless there's a confession, juries are convicting only beyond a 'reasonable' doubt, not to 100% certainty or fact. And the accused often say that they are innocent.

And responding to charges with "you can't be certain" would be attorney malpractice. In daily conversation, it is just silly.

I've never thrown a punch in a bar fight but I once got into a shoving match over a game of pool of all things.

Around closing time in a bar when I was a professor 30+ years ago, a student sucker-punched me fairly hard in the stomach. I gave him a puzzled look, smiled and muttered: "Michael, I can't believe you did that." After I went home the student called around 3 am to apologize. The student called again around 10 am to apologize. When I told the student he had already called to 3 am to apologize he said he was too drunk to remember.

Good times.:)

lol - I rarely went into bars where a conversation like this could possibly have happened. I was in one that opened at midnight - it was called "Between the Sheets" - cool name. It was not a lot of fun but I was not the guy who got thrown through the window anyway. lol again
