What happened before that? What happened in the clubhouse? Did Pedroia say "don't go after Machado" but Barnes didn't listen?

 

Not to mention, how does anyone know how his teammates felt about it? Are they talking about it in press articles I'm not reading?

As I recall, Pedey did come out and say that he didn't want any retribution. I'll have to go back and look, but that's how I remember it. Whatever the case, I think Barnes was going for between the shoulder blades, but the throw sailed high. Pedey was reacting to a very dangerous throw. Sure! He probably shouldn't have reacted like he did, but I think he was basically saying that this was unnecessary, and could have been tragic.

 

I was not thrilled with Pedey's leadrship, but I think Price was a big cause of much of the drama on last year's team. He was itching to go after the Boston Sports media from day 1, and clearly rallied the young guys to a feeling of "us against them."

 

 

Pedey will be fine. Price also seems to have chilled with the attitude.

 

But for that 1 pitch, when he should have been taken out, he pitched a hell of a game up until then.

BUT.... Let's not re-write history! Price had his nuts in a wringer from day 1 last year. He went out of his way to take shots not only at The Boston Sports Media, but also at Red Sox Fans. He picked fights with Drellich & Eck, and clearly tried to sour all the young guys on The Boston Sports Media. He did so clearly to extract vengeance on ALL who had written or said anything critical of him in the past. Price came out of the gate firing at the media, then used a couple of NOTHING CRITICISMS to embarrass and humiliate a couple of media guys, i.e. Drellich and Eck.

 

Boston fans are pretty savy, and called him out for doing so. We are not long for ******** in Boston, no matter who you are. If you're a guy constantly taking subtle shots at Boston, Boston guys are going to tear you a new one. Taking on Eck, and deliberately embarrassing and humiliating him was A HUGE NO NO in Boston. Like it or not, Eck is much beloved in this area, and he is CLEARLY THE BEST 'Color Guy" on NESN. To pretend that Eck is hard on ANY OF THE PLAYERS, is pure fiction! Price pulled the wrong ******** play in the wrong town!

 

He got crucified, & for good reason. He never really apologized like a 'Boston' Man, but we're over it. It's a brand new year! We all want to move on!!! We want Price to EARN redemption! Just like we sold out for Lackey when he came back in 2013!

I was not at all happy with Price when I read about the incident with Eck. I don't think Eck is too harsh on any of our players. As you said, he is beloved. I can understand why fans were not happy with him. I'm not excusing Price for his behavior.

 

That said, we don't know the full story. What you say that Price was 'clearly' trying to do is anything but clear. Also, I think the story was likely blown out of proportion.

 

Price acted badly in a particular situation. Other players have done similar things. It doesn't mean that they are a bad teammate.

hahaha. it got him in line for a little while. remember how fast he put together that rifle? pretty damn fast. of course he used said rifle to murk Sgt. Hartman and then blow his own brains out. but for those few weeks in between - he was an OUTSTANDING soldier.

so the math is:

Pummel Price with socks filled with bars of soap + Price getting his s*** together + Price pitching us to a parade - Price blowing his own brains out on the duckboat = Red Sox out from under the remaining $$$ of his contract.
