I just think the 10-14 days is more of the FO blowing their smoke. It does seem like they've often been wrong with their estimations, maybe so they don't show their hand to other teams. Or maybe to pacify the fans. Naw... they wouldn't do that!!

Don'tteams often say longer than expected, so the players looks like ago-getter for coming back "early."

I thought the realistic standard fan expectation to be set in any recovery report from this FO was to triple it and then pray it wasn't the whole season or at least months.

Who knows, but anytime I've ever heard "break" in my entire lifetime, it wasn't going to just heal up in a couple of weeks. Xander was healed up in a couple weeks last year after being hit on the hand. That worked out well.

I have never heard of or experienced a broken bone mending in 10-14 days. Maybe Jacko can enlighten us all about this magic!

The f***ing thing is swollen and hurts like a f*** , I am sure. All breaks do this. Obviously displaced fractures are much more worser!

I expect Bogey will be back around the first of June. But Unlike some here I don't pretend that my opinion is factual and the final word.

I dunnno.. it just seems like the FO has a habit of painting a very best case scenario for every injury, going way back to Buchholz and his "sleeping with the baby wrong". Buch started out as being listed day-to-day and then it turned into week-to-week and then to month-to-month. Then I think about Holt, Price, Wright... Does anyone on this team come back earlier than expected?

Now when I hear the FO's estimates of how long a player will be out I just think.."Yeah. Maybe. That means nothing. He'll be back when he's back." :(

Whereas I'm wondering if Spud will ever stop whimpering like a child because of some benign post moon made.

I'm with the " It'll be longer" crowd.

I'm no doctor (and I'm not going to lose my s*** if someone disagrees with me), but bone breaks in the feet or ankle always seem to take a while to heal up.

See you in June, Xander.

Foot fractures take a LONG time to heal. A bad sprain can pull off a piece of bone and it’s still treated as a sprain. Even a “small crack” in the foot that’s not an avulsion usually takes a long time. I’m perplexed by the timetable.

Yeah it seemed odd at the announcement. Now an actual doctor is confused I think it's safe to assume this timescale is unlikely.

Annoying timing.

Really - you think that he was talking about you Hitch?

MLB Trade Rumors is saying that Nunez will play SS and Holt 2B. They are not saying that they have a Red Sox source for that information.

How's that infield D looking for us now if that happens. Might be a new found respect for XB the guy who looks good to the eye but not the sats. lol

What that's doing is taking a previously shaky infield and making it shakier But it's not like we have any other good options.

As they said in Argo, "It's the best bad idea we've got". Ugh

I hope Brock plays at his 2015 AS level rather than what we saw last year. Brock's defensive numbers are actually better at SS than 2b. Nunez is equally bad everywhere in the IF.

No, not at all. He seems to be referencing moon. Again. Quite literally the least offensive post I've seen on this forum but he seems determined to ride this horse for a while yet.

FACT.

the red sox medical staff / conditioning staff / injury preventative staff is the worst in the history of all of baseball on all the planets in the universe.

there are up to 76,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars similar to ours and almost all of them have some form of planets.

summary: our medical staff sucks.

I would like him to be out until June if it means he comes back 100%. Playing through injuries didn't work for him last year

I agree with this.

We all hope that, but if he can put up even 2016 numbers it wouldn't be the worst thing. As I said in another thread, I can write Holt's season last year off due to the concussions, and he was at least showing some life offensively towards the end of last season. If he can put up a .250/.350/.700 we should be happy. Some will say he stinks at those numbers and has no business on a major league roster, but in the end, he is a back up infielder for a reason. Fans need to be somewhat realistic about expectations.

OPS about 750 after 9/4. Not bad. Hard to judge though.

Well, Xander IS a below average fielder because an average fielder would be 15 out of 29, not 16 out of 29!

Actually the median fielder would be 15 out of 29 but might be higher or lower than average. :D

lol - But what I have realized is that based on what the statistics say abut JBJ and his defense, the eye test ain't so bad! Got to be as credible as anything else I guess.
