Happ with hand foot and mouth disease. That's pretty random. I had never even heard of it until Thor got it like a week ago. He may miss his start against Boston now.

And Sale to the DL too with shoulder inflammation, that's a bit of a shocker. Both illnesses/injuries announced almost back to back of each other.

Sounds like amputation of limbs are in order.

I've said it a couple times before; Sonny Gray is my favorite Red Sox player. The Yankees are 10-11 in his starts. If they replaced him at the beginning of the season with the number 4 guy from almost any MLB rotation they'd probably be in a tie for first. Sonny Gray is the best.

Gray had been on a roll. Didn’t help that Gleyber took the day off defensively, but every ball hit was a missile. Gray’s ERA on the road is 3.58. His ERA at home is over 6. With Lynn in the fold, I’d seriously consider letting Lynn start, especially at home. Gray cannot be on this squad in 2019

If the Sox end up going on to win a title, I sincerely hope the Yankees will decide to either play their prospect talent or use their financial advantage to load up for next season. We held back this year. We didn’t go out and get Machado. We didn’t go get DeGrom. It wasn’t due to lack of resources. It was due to lack of willingness to utilize those resources. We have a hot shot kid in the minors just tearing it up and we don’t promote him for 40 man and control reasons. While I understand the reasoning behind our non moves, I’m not sure the timing of them is appropriate. We aren’t some up and coming club that is surprising people. We’ve got the second best record in baseball a year after being one game away from the World Series. While I do like the upgrades we made, I think there was more that could have been done. Dombrowski may have left scorched earth in the farm, but he created quite possibly the best Red Sox team of all time, one that has enough staying power to stay largely intact through next season (assuming the Sox resign Kimbrel). Maybe Cash is waiting for 2020 to do that? Maybe he’s hoping for sustainability? Maybe the Sox rotation ends up being their Achilles heel? Who knows, but more can be done and I’m expecting it come 2019

Cashman has made some great moves, and he's also made some very questionable ones IMO. You wonder sometimes if he gets a little too clever for his own good.

I was actually quite (pleasantly) surprised that Cashman didn't add a higher impact player at the deadline. Britton is great, but how much can you really improve a pen that was already the best?

Adding Happ and Lynn just didn't instill any angst in me.

That said, do the Yankees really need Machado? deGrom, I can see, but like the Red Sox, the Yankees weren't really in dire need of someone requiring the team to give up the top prospects.

Cessa went 3.2 innings on Thursday, meaning he isn't available to start on Saturday. Why didn't the Yankees use Cole on Thursday instead of Cessa? Can't Cole go 3 innings? If Cole goes 3 innings, you would save Cessa for Saturday. If you're not going to use Cole in that situation, when are you going to use him? That seemed like the perfect spot for Cole.

EDIT: Cole has not pitched since July 31. In early July, he pitched 2 innings of relief for the Yankees twice. Cole, of course, was a failed starter with the Nats. Thus, the Yankees could have stretched him out for 3 innings on Thursday (I presume).

As far as I know, no one has criticized Boone for using Cessa over Cole on Thursday.

Boone said he thought the team had a lot of good at-bats. I guess now we know what the problem with the Yankees was last night: their manager was off watching some other game.

LOL. I still don't understand what Andujar did wrong on Thursday night on the J.Bradley play at home. After the game, Boone blamed Andujar for that play more than J.Holder, who threw behind Bradley and didn't run Bradley back toward third base. Maybe Boone was watching a different game.

It is also interesting to note that Andujar was not playing 3b on Friday (he was the DH). Was Boone penalizing him?

Yeah, a lot of Yankee fans were going WTF about those comments by Boone.

Boone said Andujar should have thrown it sooner. What he didn’t realize was that if he threw it right away, he’d have hit Bradley. Holder didn’t do his job. You run at the runner and make him commit. Bradley deeked to third and never committed. Either way, it took an otherworldly play by JBJ to be safe.

In terms of Porcello, the Yanks were crushing balls right at guys in the middle innings and then they just rolled over late. Porcello has the exact approach that gives us fits. No messing around, mixing pitches, locating to corners. Our team is patient, but that patience got them down 0-2 a fair amount vs Porcello

Andujar was playing 3B, but it was all the pitcher's fault for not running at the runner.

The third base coach has to chew out the non- hustling players. Boone hems and haws and stutters. He comes across as looking very weak. I wonder if George was still alive ; what would have been his reaction had Sonny Gray been pummeled by the Orioles , then walked off the mound to a chorus of boos with a big smile on his face ? The Yankees have problems.

This series sucks. Double so because I've been in Vermont since Thursday and have had to endure tons of jabs from New Englanders

Are you wearing pinstripe garments in bars or something? Woof
