The Yankees are 3-4 against the Orioles so far this season. The Orioles don’t have a winning record against any other team they’ve played more than 3 times.

Oh the shame! The shame, I tell you!

The tough thing to realize as a fan is that trying to keep up with the Sox at this stage is a fools errand. We’re on pace for a 106 win season after today’s loss. If we win 106 games and end up in the WC game, then so be it.

We haven’t hit 100 wins since 2009. We haven’t gone past 103 since 1998.

Exactly. Thing is, we rise to our competition but we have been sinking to the competition in division.

We are 5-2 vs HOU, 3-0 vs CLE and 4-3 vs BOS. That’s a .705 win % vs the division leaders. Yet we have a losing record cs the O’s

The Sox have just been decimating bad teams and holding their own vs the good ones.

Greg Bird's last 7 games:

.261/.414/.565/.979 with 2 HRs and 11 RBIs

Hopefully this isn't just SSS noise. He's still striking out a ton (37.9K% during these 7 games) but his swing and approach have looked a lot better.

Why in the world did Francona ran out Kluber over 100 pitches when they had hit him hard?

Because a gassed Kluber is still better than their ML worst bullpen which is without Andrew Milller and has a collective 5.39 ERA.

I didn't know how badly they have regressed. It wasn't long ago Francona was the genius at bullpen usage.

CC pitched far better than his line. The second run scored after a single, SB and two groundouts. The final two runs against him never should have scored. He shouldn’t have been left in to face Guyer. The GB he got out of him should have been charged by Andujar. Once Andujar got it as he did, he should have put it in his pocket. Also, Romine should have caught the throw from Bird. No errors given on the play, which is baffling.

That being said, the Guardians gave away the lead and eventually the game due to poor D on Romine’s double and then little league inside the park homer with two errors tacked on. The pen once again dominated a really good lineup. 30 games over at the ASB usually gets you a ginormous lead at the ASB. Tip of the cap to the Sox who are on a historic pace

Weird stat: Chad Green has given up runs in 8 games this year. 7 of those games were started by Tanaka.

That’s real strange. Green spit the bit today. It happens. He’s been nails all year. Interesting to see Cleveland go with Carrasco to bridge to Allen

I’m perplexed by the alignment out of the break. I am wondering if Boone is looking ahead to the Sox series and is lining guys up for it. Otherwise, why start German first game out of the break. Sevy threw what amounts to a bullpen at the ASB which you do on day 3 or 4 of your cycle (game day is day 1, long toss day 2, etc). If they wanted to give him a little rest, coming back in the Mets series makes more sense. Instead Boone throws our worst pitcher in game one out of the break. Surprising to say the least. Maybe he’s banking on the Mets anemic offense to fold against German’s stuff.

I just mapped it out. That’s exactly what he’s doing. By starting German first, the Sox will miss Gray in their 4 game set. I think Boone knows he has to have Gray miss the sox

Boone is obviously afraid of the Sox, as he should be.

I'm curious to see if the Red Sox try to schedule Price to miss that series as well
i don’t think that he will, and I think Price will step it up against the Yankees the next time.

Mapping it out, Price is currently scheduled to pitch Game 3 against the Yankees.

With the injuries to ERod, Pom, and Wright, I really can't see the Sox scheduling Price to miss that series.

Even without the injuries, I think it would be a bad idea to skip Price's turn against the Yankees anyway. For one, I think it sends the wrong message to Price. For two, the optics all around would be bad. For three, we need Price to be good in high stakes games. The only way to do that is to throw him right back out there.

Boone is overthinking. Probably psyched out. Dumb. Now he is setting the Yankees up for a loss tonight. Syndergaard vs German gives the Mets a real shot. Then Gray goes tomorrow and they face DeGrom Sunday night. Sox will continue to win and pull away.

The Mets can’t hit. If we’re gonna burn German and Gray, this is when to do it. I think Boone knows that each yanks-sox game is worth two in the standings. Also, German’s start vs the Sox is right after the deadline. There’s a chance German is donning a new uniform at that time
