Yankees and Red Sox will have a two game series in London in June 2019. I feel like that kind of rivalry game will be wasted on the Brits.
Agreed. I am not in favor of this.

Ball Four is my favorite baseball book. I still have my paperback copy from when it was a big deal.

On the cover it is endorsed by Howard Cosell" ..." Puts to route the idea that baseball is the sacred cow and that the only milk that it emits is pure".

If it were not for this book I would never have known about beaver shooting!

I've read Ball Four three times and got something different out of the book each time. As a young teen when the book came out, I was riveted by the accounts of sex and partying. Around my 40th birthday, I was interested in the book's description of the developing labor issues in baseball. In my mid-50s I could relate to self doubt of the aging Jim Bouton.

The 1969 Seattle Pilots held a 40-year public reunion at a Seattle hotel on a Saturday afternoon in 2009. I had long-standing plans to attend the reunion but broke my wrist in a bicycle crash that morning, delaying my departure to Seattle. I made it that evening to the Mariner game where the Pilots were honored.

I can't remember if it was in Ball Four or the sequel, Bouton was talking about Seattle Pilots manager Joe Schultz. He said Schultz's two favorite words when something went wrong were 'f***shit' and 'Shitf***'.

Time for a TalkSox road trip!

That was in the original Ball Four, which was given to me by my grandmother, a retired English professor, when I was 14 years old. At the time I was surprised that she would give me a book filled with profanity. Three years later my mother shared with my grandmother my profanity-laced but well-regarded creative writing. Grandma said she liked the writing but that I should not use profanity just for the sake of using profanity.

Good advice. I don't think I've use profanity on this forum (and have been roundly criticized for questioning posters who do).:)

Time for a TalkSox road trip!

The Seattle Mariners have announced they will open the 2019 season in Tokyo against the Oakland Athletics. My closest baseball friend immediately said we should go. He's been to all 30 MLB stadiums and recently returned from the two MLB games in Puerto Rico. I doubt that I'll go for many reasons, including that my daughter is likely to have an athletic competition on those dates.

I have not been to all MLB stadiums but I have joined my friend for games in Seattle, Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Diego, Phoenix, Denver, Boston, New York (Yankee and Citi Field), Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington and Toronto.

Then they have no sense of history. The Continental Army pushed the British Army out of Boston in March 1776, but 6 months later the British Army drove us out of New York City and kept it for the duration--all the way up until the peace treaty was signed in 1783. Londoners should be rooting for the Yankees (despite their name). Fittingly, the longest-tenured owner in NYY history was another George.

Sox did the same in 08 against the A’s. It was dumb then. Too far.

I agree. The Mariners played the Athletics there for two games in 2012.

Nonstop flights from Seattle to Tokyo take at least 10 hours and 20 minutes while nonstop flights from Boston to London take at least six hours and 20 minutes.

Not that this is at all relevant to a thread on the Sox-Yankees rivalry renewed, but has anybody else noticed that freight train one game back of the Sox? Right now they are playing great, and our guys stink.

On second thought, it's better to decry that two game series with the Athletics in Tokyo in 2007.

Oh really.

What if I told you that I could get us a place to stay in London for the days of those games for free?

It would be really cool to sit in a London stadium and watch the Sox humiliate the Yankees.

London ain't Ft. Myers ol' dude.

CC Sabathia says he'll retire if the Yankees win the World Series

Looks like CC will be back for 2019!

Think you will be surprised. There is a huge baseball following over here. I’ll be shocked if these aren’t sold out.

Also remember football and major sport over here is massively based around derby games (local rivalries). It’s a huge part of our sporting culture.

Series tied. See y'all losers in 7 weeks

It's like a summer family reunion party.

Love a good party, but can't stand half the people there.

Yankees are a half game out today, but have the best record in all of baseball.

This is going to be some race... the race to stave off that wild-card playoff game. We'll both end up killing it just to avoid this stupid game.

@Rotoworld_BB

Gary Sanchez (calf) sitting out Wednesday

Heard that it wasn't just a cramp in his leg yesterday. Good chance it was necrotizing fasciitis. He may need full leg amputation.

Would that be a bad thing?

It’s stupid how they do the “half game” thing. It doesn’t matter in the long run, but the team with the highest win percentage should be considered to be in first place.

Well it’s fixed now. Happy? We are. Yankees might want to open up a new can of pitchers. My goodness.

We have Jacko to thank for the Sox win, accompanied by the Yankees loss, last night. ;)
