I'm thrilled we didn't get Hosmer, but Moreland returning is very sad.

1B comps last 4 years

HRs

Moreland: 22. 23. 22, 2 (inj), 23 in 2013

EHosmer: 25, 25, 18, 9

Morrison: 38, 14, 17, 11 (under 360 PAs in 2 low years)

OPS

Moreland: .769, .720, .812,> .736 (2013)

EHosmer: .882, .761, .822, .716

Morrison: .868, .722, .685, .735

Looking at the projected contracts, Moreland looks like a steal, but if I see this guy in the 4 slot next year, I'll scream!

He should not be in the 4 slot for sure. I know it's a small sample, but Moreland's stats were very good before he broke his toe. Maybe we'll see more of that Moreland.

We will sign JD and Morleand keeps Hanley from vesting.

That saves us next year from Hosmer's huge contract (now he's not signing) and Hanley's huge final year. That money will go into somebody big at the free agency buffet.

The more I think about it, the more I like it.

I pretty much agree.

Duda could have been had for 1 year and maybe $7M.

I wonder what Morrison will get, but he was more "iffy".

I'm glad we did not get Hosmer, but I liked signing JD as the DH and going with HRam at 1B--chances are he doesn't vest playing there either.

Duda, maybe. Hanley will still play at 1st and if he plays very well he will get more time. Seeing as he's a major injury risk coming off TWO shoulder surgeries, I quite like this move as a safety option.

And if we want to get rid in a years time, I think we can probably shift Moreland's contract.

We are keeping our powder dry for next year's free agency.

We're over the luxury limit already, and we're not done spending. Next year the tax goes up a hefty notch.

The lines over the past four seasons for two somewhat defensively challenged righthand-hitting outfielders:

Player A 2645 PA, .287/.359/.549/.908, 166 HR, 147 OPS+, 18.6 bWAR, 16.5 fWAR

Player B 2143 PA, .300/.362/.574/.936, 128 HR, 149 OPS+, 15.2 bWAR, 14.6 fWAR

Player A is Nelson Cruz and Player B is J.D. Martinez, who is seven years younger than Cruz.

It means nothing but I found the numbers interesting.:)

Nelson Cruz is pretty good. If he were a FA, he'd be a cheaper option.

We will make a splash next year.

Or, we'll just decide to keep Kimbrel, Pom and extend one of our young stars.

We have a young star? Just kidding sort of. I like Betts, Benintendi, and Devers as much as the next guy but it is possible that we think that they are better than they actually are.

Benintendi and Devers haven't really proven anything yet, but Mookie finished 2nd in MVP voting in 2016 and 6th in 2017, so I would say he has.

Mookie is def a star. Benny and Devers will be soon.

And I have no problem thanking Theo. He is the GOAT.

Yes he is.

However, Ill always be grateful that Cherrington was able to unload Beckett, Gonzalez and Crawford.

Then he screwed us with Ramirez, Sandoval and Castillo. If you don't know who he is, hes the guy making 10+ Million a year in AAA, and is not even on the 40 man roster.

And the soon to be stars?

Both promoted to the bigs by Delusional Dave.

I'm still taking my Devers victory lap from last year after everyone told me he wouldn't impact the big league roster. BRB.

I believe Theo would have learned from his mistake and not signed Hanley or Pablo.

Ohhh man !!!

I was looking at the Castillo deal, I can't believe he still has 3 yrs left in that contract, at least Ramirez and Sandoval played in the bigs for a while to "deserve" that contract but this guy....

A quarter of a billion dollars for accumulated WAR of about zero.
