So Pedey's out with knee pain and Mookie is out for the fourth straight game with "slight pain in his side".

I can't decide if our "crack medical team" is incompetent or if they're continuing to treat us like mushrooms by keeping us in the dark and feeding us ********.

As long as they are honest to the players, I don’t care what the fans hear.

Could have used Mookie tonight.

Micro fracture can be helpful...but it can end a career .I think we might want to enjoy what ever Pedey brings us this year .I think this may be it for Pedroia and it's kind of how I thought it would end due to injuries.

Its rarely helpful, at least not for long. Sometimes it gives temporary relief of pain, but its not a permanent fix. I had it done on my shoulder and it did essentially nothing. I can't even imagine how badly it works for knees-I don't have to walk on my shoulder. Its likely that even if Pedroia makes it through this year it will be his last.

Carlos Beltran played for quite a few years after his microsurgery.

Hey it could happen ... But it's also as likely it won't .Beltran was an OF ...Pedey needs explosion and short burst laterally...I don't think he has that anylonger ...but the second I see it I'll be very happy .

Also Victor Martinez has played a long time after his microsurgery. In 2014, two years after his surgery, he arguably had the best season of his career.

The minute I heard this was his course of action I kindof got melancholy about what Pedey once was ...because that Pedey is gone .

A700 do you compare Pedey and Beltran and the slowest person I've ever seen on a diamond Wictor...?? Come on now Pedey won't be a 1b candidate nor will he ever play the OF or DH ....he's a second baseman with bad Knees ...and they are worse by the day .I think Dave has to replace Pedey sooner than later .This is it .

Can’t we just send him to the Yankees Miami clinic to get healed up??

Well it's funny you say this ...HGH would do some real good to Pedey .I am of the opinion HGH should be used in cases like this why the hell not have a waiver for a mans livelihood to continue???? Pedey will never be a power hitter again so why the hell not try everything Ned anything at this point ??? Is it really better for the game a player like this can't ? I don't think so .im in the minoroty on this also ...I think Papi would have played until he was 45 easy if he had HGH to heal his feet ....makes me sad but it's baseball not football I guess.I am only saying a waiver for players with these bone issues ...oh well maybe someday .

VMart didn't get any slower after his surgery. Hitters like VMart at the MLB level need good legs to provide a sound foundation. VMart had a monster year two years after his surgery. Pedey has never been fast, and over the last several seasons, he has been rather slow. That hasn't prevented him from being a top defender.

I think the prediction of Peddys demise are a bit premature.

Yup, it's expected that Pedroia is going to have days when he's sore.

Doesn't mean he's been rushed back or his career is doomed.

Totally agree. He had a sore knee last night. It doesn't mean the end and lots of players have soreness. Give it and him a break and lets see how it develops. I'm with you on this one.

I still think that it is unlikely that Peedy contributes very much this year.

100% agree.

Never count Pedroia out.

So Pedey and VMart in your opinion need about the same lateral movement ? Hey ok it's an opinion .

Pedey will not be playing much longer ...if it's not this its next year he's about done .Boston media like to elevate players that don't deserve it and destroy those who need elevating ...Pedey is not an elite player hasn't been for along time ...his glove is what made him special ....his legs will not be able to do the things they did even a year ago or he will be shelved another 9 months ....if I'm Dave I may look to upgrade his position at the Break along with Catcher ....How ? I don't have the answers ...Just my humble opinion . Edited by Natick to NC

Beltran played the OF pretty well after his surgery. I am not a doctor, but I don't think Microfracture surgery involves ligaments or tendons that keep the knee stable and permit lateral movement.

Bad knees or not, predicting that a 34 year old second baseman only has a year or 2 left is not really going out on a limb.

Microfracture surgery is meant to stimulate cartilage growth in an arthritic joint. It's a hail mary for an otherwise diseased joint

I doubt he will even make much of a contribution THIS year. I hope I'm wrong.....

This one troubles me. He comes back, plays a game or two, and winds up on the 10 day. We need him. He has been a hell of a player for a long time. If he was playing today or tomorrow, I guess you could chalk it up to him just being sore but this one just doesn't feel right. I'm not into the "he came back too soon" ******** either. I'm just wondering if he can actually come back at all due to what he has been through.

The procedure is a wing and a prayer. Some guys do well with it. 75% of people who undergo the procedure note an improvement, but there isn't a measure of how much the improvement is. The improvement might be to walk without pain. Well, to be an elite athlete, the improvement needs to be "back to normal" and there isn't anything quantifiable to say if that's of high likelihood or not. There are some success stories, but there are a lot of failures as well. It seems the younger players do the best with this as it is with most things. Pedroia isn't a young player anymore. If this doesn't work, then he's likely to be on the 60 day and then released next year while counting towards the cap. If this is just some routine inflammation and he returns close to his former self, then great for you. But the possibility is there that this knee will never heal and he will not be able to function as a professional baseball player
