Stanton has declined to waive no-trade clause for the Cards and the Giants. Who is lurking—the Yankees?

Nope. Yelich and Ozuna...

Explain?

If Stanton keeps blocing trades, they will just cut payroll elsewhere.

They'll deal Yelich and Ozuna and Straily and hope to find takers for Ziegler and Prado...

Understood, but Stanton apparently would accept a trade to the Yankees. Why do you say the Yankees aren't lurking?

Reportedly they want to get unde the Luxury Tax. No way they can do that and trade for Stanton. I'm not sue they can even if they can unload a few of their heavier contracts, most of which are not attached to productive players...

I don't really trust them to stick to that stated plan with Stanton now virtually dangling in front of them.

The $25M luxury tax hit is not bad at all, especially for a team like the Yanks.

Yeah, they want to reset, but we're talking about...

Giancarlo "Freakin" Stanton!

If Cashman blow this, he should forfeit his new $25M contract.

Just reset next year, or trade what you need to trade to get you under this year.

These guys don't come along that often.

Judge and Stanton back-to-back would be Ruthian-Gehrigesque!

Houston is the scarier option. Imagine Stanton playing full time in that little ballpark where he already broke one scoreboard.

Think Houston lets him go to NY too easily?

I'm just not sure Houston has the financial wherewithal to take on such a contract.

Can the Red Sox even afford Stanton? And how much are we still paying fatty Sandoval to play for the Giants?

Now that we have reset the luxury tax, we can probably afford to spend close to $40M this winter. Stanton's luxury hit is $25M.

Why should we refuse all trade offers that include JBJ other than Stanton?

He is extremely streaky. He doesn't get on base. He doesn't run and hes a below average offensive player.

He is Darren Lewis with power. Lewis would have won a GG every year had he had the luxury of JBJ's unproductive AB's.

Hes not that good, and extremely overrated.

He was a 2.8 WAR player last season in 133 games. Tell me more about him being "over rated"

"Below average offensive player"??? He has a 6.5 OWAR in 5 seasons. On what planet is that below avg?

To compare him to Darren Lewis is ridiculously stupid. Lewis had a 10 WAR over 13 MLB seaosons. JBj has 10.8 in 5....

I believe they are trying to reset for Harper next year. But I agree....they will most likely choose to go over anyways for Stanton...

The Yankees have shown before that they will bail on that plan in a heartbeat.

Starlin Castro and mid-level Prospects, from what I'm reading. Thanks Jeter, you A-Hole!

it probably won't happen - but it would be fun for Stanton to turn the Yankees down

Low A prospects and a salary dump in Castro for...

Giancarlo Freakin' Stanton!

I knew the cost would be low, but this is sick!

Jeter really working for his old team. Low A prospects? Could that mean some 25 year old soon to be rule 5 draft picks?

It's nearly 22-year-old right-hander Jorge Guzman and and barely 18-year-old shortstop Jose Devers (cousin of Rafael Devers):

MLB Prospect Watch ranked Guzman ninth in a loaded Yankee farm system while Devers was not ranked:
