You are only kidding yourself if you don't think Springer participated in and benefited from the cheating. That makes him just as guilty as Cora.

Here is one case:

Don't you think that comment was a little uncalled for?

Now that I have some evidence, I'll look into it, and let you know my reaction.

Manfred specifically excluded players from the report (except one mention of Beltran) and exempted them from penalties.

I know. I was trying to discover if she thinks everybody is guilty by association with the Astros, or if there was a concrete example of various players cheating. The video she attached was pretty damning, but I want to gather more evidence before I rush to judgment.

theres a guy that literally pulled every pitch off video to see how often you can hear trash cans banging prior to the pitch. IIRC Springer was high up on the list for amount of times you can hear it....i will try and find the website later but it might be linked in the Astros cheated thread....

Like I said, show me something in the report that proves he is as guilty as Cora and I will gladly change my opinion on him. He's a personal hero of mine. That won't change, but I can be disappointed in something he did. I'm not familiar with the report so if there's something damning about him in there, please point it out to me

I am not a Cora or Springer apologist, but if you're referring to the official MLB report, not one single current or active member of the Astros' organization is named. The players -- who were given immunity for testimony -- did not rat out teammates or superiors. The only names in the report were of guys no longer working for Houston: Cora and Beltran. Make your own inferences.

There also exists another report (I posted a link last winter) -- researched by reporters with quotes from several Astros' employees -- that indicates people throughout the organization were complicit to certain degrees in developing, implementing or at least knowing about a "code-breaker" system. The article confirms this was developed by the analytics department before Cora was hired in 2017. Springer has been an Astro since 2014.

As for Boston firing -- or even rehiring Cora -- some may recall that the were hints the Sox were prepared to ride it out with AC until scribes like Shaughnessy and Tomase called for his head. After the "axe fell", Sam Kennedy was adamant that it was Cora who walked away. At the same time, all the owners had were words of love. Such reactions are what make us think there's at least a crack in the door... unless the trio is all running for office or wants to be future stars of the Covid thread.

I'm not trying to defend him. I was not aware of all this. Show it to me and I'll examine it and reassess my opinion.

I'm very open-minded

Springer had 140 pitches where banging was clearly audible in the 60 home games where the video was reviewed.

Still waiting on that retraction. Just a little hypocritical coming from you, especially if you're going to constantly police us on the other thread. I was also a little offended by it.

Thanks, Kimmi. I'm better at baseball than politics; in the former, not as many tell me what I think I'm seeing and hearing is wrong, fake or a figment of my elaboration.

One fact I'm still intrigued by is that while Alex Cora was sorry for the subsequent stress he caused the Red Sox, he never actually apologized for his time in Houston. Many of the current Astros had no choice in February, but I have to wonder how many just regret getting caught. While I'm not defending their technique, I tend to think their attitude has less to do with arrogance than with the frustration that they were being made an example of, by merely being more successful at a part of the game always accepted, expected, and engaged in by competitive baseball teams.

All good. I've been called worse things, and at the end of the day we're all strangers on the Internet who have high levels of accumulated stress. It happens. My reaction was more shock than anything else, hearing that come from you

I agree that the Astros are probably frustrated by being made an example of. I have no doubt that all teams are guilty of using technology to steal signs to some degree or another. I guess they took it too far, but that really doesn't make any of the other teams any less guilty.

As bombastic as the red headed boyfriend can be, he is usually spot on when he makes these "predictions". My bet is he was told what the plan would be barring a miracle Red Sox half season

The miracle might be that they play a half season...

FWIW, Shaughnessy thinks Cora will be the Red Sox manager in 2021.

Shaughnessy is probably the lead sports writer for John Henry's newspaper, the Globe . I think it is fair to say that he does probably have access to some inside information.

He’s certainly the longest tenured. And not as much of an idiot as Masseroti...

Cora is the man. I would welcome him back with open arms.

His words confirm what I've suspected from the start: they're all part of the same hypocrisy. I bet a lot Astros have made peace with AC over texts or Zooms during quarantine, and wouldn't be surprised if some even play for him again when he's back managing.

Houston is one club that will definitely benefit with no fans in the stands, booing and screaming all summer. When they're visitors though, they may still have to read fake signs held by cardboard faces positioned in the box seats.

LOL Houston will definitely benefit from not having to deal with the wrath of opposing teams' fans. I wonder if opposing pitchers will still be intent on hitting Astros' hitters.

Probably. But there are the Ryan Dempsters of the pitching world out there.

Dempster just flew too close to the sun. People seem to prefer the Joe Kelly Fight Club tactic more.

This is one of many reasons why I admire Cora and can't wait to get him back.

That's interesting, because that's one of the reasons I DON'T want him back. I've said before that it's no guarantee either side will want to reunite, and I see hiring back as a horrible PR move for the Red Sox FO, and I personally will lose respect for them if they rehire him. Cheaters shouldn't be rewarded, even if they apologize. At least not yet. I want a longer probationary period. 1 year to me, a season that is washed out, is just a slap on the wrist.

I wouldn't call what happened to Cora a slap on the wrist. He was banned for a year, fired and humiliated. The washout of the season is just a fluke that has affected a lot of things.
