So... you’re saying everyone will be level-headed and not reactionary and above all, remember the last 3 years over the current one?

I know how people are. I'm just putting my position out there. When the top of the order and your entire starting rotation struggles the first few months, it's tough to get yourself out of it. I expect the Sox to stay in contention throughout the year. If next season is of a similar ilk, then a conversation could maybe make sense.

I'm just surprised that "Desperate Dave" hasn't either blown up the team or signed a bunch of guys to wreck the cap!

You are never as good as you look when playing at the top of your game. you are never as bad as you look when playing as badly as you can play. Same applies to Alex Cora and the rest of us. If memory serves, there were a whole bunch of people here willing to project him to the top of our leaderboard with respect to managers after last season. It's a process. Time will tell how he is going to turn out. Life is easy when everything is going well. This is a good test for him.

Last night vs. the Rangers was another nightmare which is becoming endemic to the 2019 Sox--despite Sale throwing a gem--7 innings, 1 unearned run--and Beni providing the early 2 run lead/

Yes, absolutely, Barnes is the chief culprit, but I think he had help. Leon's passed ball and the bad throw to 2b led to that unearned run. Leon calling for nothing but fastballs to the first three Rangers hitters in the 9th added fuel to the fire. Then he kept calling for curve balls and never actually mixed the pitches up. These days--and Kimbrel was no exception to this rule--a great closer must not only have two good pitches, he must use them.

And of course, the Sox went 1 for 8 with RISP. After that 2 run dinger in the 1st, the Sox were held to 1 run in the next 10 innings.

In the bottom of the 9th with 2 on and no one out, Devers hit that towering drive foul down the right field line and apparently made up his mind he could win the game with one swing. So get got a breaking ball on the low outside corner, tried to pull it, and hit into an easy DP made a little harder by Bogie avoiding the first tag. The box score once again shows a marginal RISP--1 for 8.

People on here like to play the "you said this back then" game and I'm just putting it out there. The Sox are still above .500. We've seen far worse from this team in 2014 and 2015. My only worry is that this is a redo of 2012, but I don't see them blowing this one up. They don't have the prospects lying in wait to bring up.

It's absolutely insane that we are sitting here talking about "we should trade this guy, we should get this guy, we need to do this to get back to the playoffs" literally a year after having one of the best teams in Red Sox history. The Houston Astros won the World Series 2 years ago and had MORE wins last year than in their World Series year but lost to us and their fans were talking about trades and the coaching situation (now they are right back to being contenders and favorites to win the World Series) Makes me think Cora is on a hot seat right now. Amazing what a year can do but this team is headed nowhere fast right now.

Red Sox should have traded Yaz in 68.

Cora is on a hot seat with fans only.

Like I said, there are plenty of people here who after last year were suggesting Alex Cora for near sainthood. We'll see how he deals with this year. How you respond with a little adversity is a true test.

Yep. This will be where you separate the men from the boys. Is he Mayo Smith, or is he Tony LaRusso.

it certainly didnt take very long to second guess if we should have went after boone instead?.......

Happens quick in sports. To go from one of the top teams in MLB history to not even in a playoff spot. Makes fans scratch their heads. A small piece of me still thinks we can right this ship..... but damn it’s frustrating lol.

I would fire Dombrowski before I fired Cora.

That's not to say that I am even remotely considering firing either one of them at this point

They're not going to blow anything up this year.

Umm, no. That thought never crossed my mind.

Cora >>> Boone all day long.

This isn't Cora's fault.

The bullpen is a mess and the lineup is underperforming.

The underperforming lineup scored 21 runs in the past two days against a first place team...

Kind of a fishy 21 runs though. Let's see how many they score in the next foreign country...

if we finish outside of at least the WC playin game is Cora in jeopardy at all? or does he get a free pass this year based on the 2018 parade?

I think his job is safe but his seat will be set to "warm" at the start of 2020 campaign......
