Major League games played career

Benintendi 185

JBJ 527

Screw WAR Trading Benni is going to big mistake, Theo and his team were always good Talent evaluators, if they want him, it means keep him.

I agree, you shouldn't trade him, but if the return is Stanton you have to listen.

If we take the whole salary, it shouldn't take Beni.

Everybody has an offseason plan, including this one passed on by a Kansas City blogger:

Boston Red Sox

Exercised options on Chris Sale and Craig Kimbrel

Non-tendered Brock Holt, Robbie Ross, and Josh Rutledge

Trade David Price to the Phillies for JoJo Romero, Dylan Cozens, and Cornelius Randolph. Boston will pay $10 million on Price’s 2018 salary. If he chooses to stay (declines his player option), Boston will also pay $10 million for each of 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022

Traded Xavier Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr., Brian Johnson, Blake Swihart to the Marlins for Giancarlo Stanton

Traded Bryan Mata and Roniel Raudes to the Athletics for Jed Lowrie and Liam Hendriks

Traded Joe Kelly to the Phillies for Freddy Galvis

Traded Tzu-Wei Lin to the Braves for R.A. Dickey

Signed Doug Fister to a 1 year, $5 million deal with a $5 million club option

Signed Bartolo Colon to a 1 year, $3 million deal

Signed Logan Morrison to a 2 year, $18 million deal

Signed Gregor Blanco, Jeanmar Gomez, and Clay Buchholz to minor league deals

I agree that the Cubs might need to add a little more than Russell, maybe they take on Prado contract to offset the difference.

This way

Red Sox get Stanton and Volquez

Cubs Get Benintendi and Prado

Marlins Get Russell and Chavis

That way the Sox do not have to take on Prado's contract and the Marlins don't have to take on Castillo's

I'd just assume leave both out and send Bradley. Just because the Cubs want Benintendi doesn't mean they'd take no one else. And the Sox need someone who is pre-arbitration.

The Marlins might be reluctant to include Volquez. Not sure. But no one wants Prado and they do have a lot of big, ugly contracts. Ziegler being another. ..

Holy crap, this guy is more creative than moonslav!

Must be a Sox fan

"This team won over 180 games and two division titles in the past two years!! IT MUST BE TORN DOWN!! COMPLETELY AND ABSOLUTELY! !!"

Given that number of traded I'm guessing this blogger is either Jerry DiPoto or a close relstive

I'm hearing Cardinals and west coast teams have best shot at Stanton.

They apparently have made a grwat offer, supposedly including Luke Weaver.

Big obstacle appears to be Stanton and his expressed desire to go to either coast...

Miami righthander Edinson Volquez, who is owed $13 million next season, might not pitch in 2018 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in August:

Sox need a big bat in the middle of the lineup. I'm sure they are looking beyond the obvious of Stanton and Martinez. I don't know about giving up Benni though.

They teally don't need one. They were still one of the top scoring teams without one. That's just the quick easy fix.

Nine teams in the AL hit more home runs than Boston and still scored fewer runs. Home runs are exciting and fun, but any upgrade over Mitch Moreland will be an improvement.

But I hope it isn't Hosmer. Carlos Santana? Yes. Hosmer? No...

Rumor has it that the Marlins are being offered a top pitching prospect plus from the cardinals and full salary relief.

Do you have a link to a report that St. Louis is offering full salary relief?

'The Red Sox, Cardinals, Giants and Phillies are early contenders to put together a trade for Marlins superstar Giancarlo Stanton, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports (on Twitter). There has been “preliminary communication” regarding the right fielder between each of those teams and the Marlins, according to Morosi, who adds that talks are likely to “intensify” at next week’s general managers meetings.'

I can't believe the Yanks and Dodgers aren't kicking the tries or waiting to swoop in at the last minute and steal the spotlight.

I know both teams have expressed an interest in lowering payroll, but Stanton is "the man."

The Yankees are getting under the threshold to make a run at Harper. If we got Stanton, we’d have little room left to stay under the cap and improve the club.

I honestly think we may make a big move for a pitcher via trade. We shall see

$25M a year is much less than Harper will get on the open market.

I get the idea of going under the limit is a priority, and it will be easier to do so this year than next.

I'll ask you this, is there any way that you can get Stanton and stay under the limit?

1) The Marlins might pay part of his salary, if they can get a better return (which no team can do better than the Yanks)

$22M Ellsbury

$13M headley

$13M Gardner

$12.5M Robertson

$8.5M S Castro

I'm thinking the Yanks are at least considering "finding a way" to do both: get Stanton and reset the tax.

2) Can you cut salary elsewhere? (Trade and eat part of vet contracts you hold now.)

  • In a lengthy piece for the Providence Journal, Tim Britton urges against many reactionary moves suggested by Red Sox fans. The body of the article includes 24 fan suggestions for Dave Dombrowski that Britton sought out on Twitter. Among them are cases for why Boston shouldn’t trade for Giancarlo Stanton, why signing Eric Hosmer doesn’t make sense, and why they should neither shop David Price nor move him to the bullpen permanently. While many such suggestions from fans have obvious flaws in logic, Britton’s piece is well worth a read for his detailed perspective on each subject.

Hey Tom,

Who gives a hoot what you think. It is hard for me to believe that you draw a paycheck for writing this garbage. Do some journalistic work. Make some phone calls. visit Fenway. Get some real information about the plans for 2018. If you are just going to print your unsourced opinions, come here to TalkSox and duel it out with Moonslav and others, and let a real reporter/sportswriter have your job. We message board types look to print media for hard news to discuss, not weak-ass opinion.

Oh and btw Tom, you are wrong about getting Stanton. He would be a huge get.

Your criticism of this journalist got off on the wrong foot when you got his name wrong (a mistake you repeated in the closing).

Maybe it was deliberate as he is a nonentity.
