1-10 w/ RISP. Did Price's choke rub off on the offense?

You can't get the big hit everytime but this team can't even do the small things right. You have pedroia at second base and no outs and Xander can't even move him to 3rd.

So after the protest is upheld, the game restarts in the 11th

Hey ya gotta hope. I think they said only one AL protest has ever been upheld, the Pine Tar game.

Can't get a break in this game. Get em tomorrow.

No, this team can't hit, and it's been painfully obvious since the start of the season. With how amazing the entire pitching staff has been this season, they should have an enormous lead in the division. They can't score runs.

More than likely they will deny the protest but the umps are going to get a stern behind the scene talking to. Ultimately the play made no difference in the outcome so they will figure out a "graceful" way to get out of it.

I can't believe these two teams played 16 innings and then have to play TWO games tomorrow

Jesus.

Leave it to these two teams to create such torture.

I'm not looking forward to position players pitching today.

MLB should allow temporary expansion of rosters for days when double headers are played.

No team should be short handed because of a schedule. It cheapens the product on the field.

Terrible at-bats in extra innings. Wild hacking. No discipline. The guy who seemed to have the best at-bats was Lin, who came close to winning it on the line drive to right.

To put any sort of Pollyanna spin on this, the Yankees are one of the best offensive teams in baseball and they couldn't do anything against some of our lesser relievers until the 16th. I think in extra-inning games fatigue becomes a factor for hitters.

They've allowed a 26th man for doubleheaders for several years now. Most of the time they bring up an extra reliever.

Plus for the Sox today is that both Porcello and Price tend to go deep into games, and both know the deal. If they have to take one for the team they will.

That sounds good, but if Porcello or Price are at 110-115 pitches after 6 you have to get them out of there regardless.

Was bbq-ing and playingcards outside listening to yesterday's 16 inning s***-fest on the radio. I'm only comforted by the fact that I didn't actually see one play, so my eyes don't hurt today... only my ears. It could've been both. :o

I've been following the Red Sox for 60 years and this is the worst hitting team I can remember. Even the late 50's and early 60's teams had better offense, and those teams were considered mediocre. My son gets the MLB package for me for free through the place he works and I won't even watch it because this team is so boring. Not sure how this team is going to go far in the playoffs, if they make the playoffs at all.

Can you imagine this pitching with the Astros offense? They would win 130 games.

Girardi out managed Farrell yesterday. He used 5 innings from 2 kids in extra innings, to save his BP for today, and still went for the win. He still has his horses for today. Farrell doesn't believe in extending any Relievers, so he had nothing left except Fister.

If we scored off one of those kids would Girardi still have out managed Farrell?

The managers didn't decide that game.

Giradi took the chance knowing DH today, and the way the Sox were hitting. No hits after the 11th inning. Those kids I don't think gave up any hits in 5 innings. I would have kept them in, I didn't see any hard hits, off those kids. Bradley came close.

Feel for the game I call it. Sometimes right sometimes wrong.

I don't see anything that Gerardi did that was so spectacular last night over what Farrell did. When a game goes 16 innings, it really puts a strain on the BP, no matter how good the pen or the managing decisions are.

As far as Gerardi still having his horses for today, do you mean Betances and Chapman? I have no idea if either are available today, but both pitched in back to back games, and if I'm not mistaken, Chapman threw quite a few pitches on Friday. I really don't think Gerardi was planning on using him at all last night.

It's been frustrating, but they ARE in 1st.

Farrell didn't burn anybody yesterday. All those guys should be available to pitch in one of today's games.

Girardi used Chapman for the second straight game.

Not sure what you're giving him extra kudos for, really.

Now let's not get carried away! It's not as if Gary Geiger and Sammy White, or perhaps Gene Stephens (in there for defense, of course), or Don Buddin himself could have come in and saved the day!
