This thread should be locked today .JBJ is getting the job done and so is Rick Porcello ..Until they prove otherwise lock this please .

Thee is no reason for this thread to be locked.

unfortunately the very next time JBj goes 0-4 with 2k's some posters will be demanding he be platooned, benched, released, or traded.

Probably. But discussion is what Talksox is here for.

As long as there is no flaming or s*** storms, this topic and thread are viable.

Hey CP. just look at any of the first 10 game threads.

stop that slasher - to much work for me plus I might find out that there was a least one moron who thinks that right now we might be better off with one our low A guys in center. lol

It's been a good discussion. Seriously I can see that people are frustrated with him though but it kind of sounds like a couple of you guys interpret that frustration as meaning half if not more of the posters here don't want him out there. I don't see it that way. I like him very much but I think that he needs to hit just a bit better than some of you do I guess. I think that he is an elite center fielder but we have some resident statistical geniuses here (and yes that is what sarcasm really looks like Natick NC) who don't consider him elite like I do. So I guess I am surprised that some of those folks seem to be defending him all of a sudden. I'm hoping that he hits so this discussion will ultimately end. He is the best we got right and he ain't bad.

I'm primed for a shitstorm. I need just a little more of Harmony trying to explain to me that that crap ass slide by Austin the other night was not fundamentally f***ed up.

I feel like we could have gotten a real ransom for JBJ last season. Not sure how good a return we would get this year. His OPS dropped to sub .700. That's not a playable player even with the PLUS-PLUS defense that he gives.

If he picks it up and gets to around a .750 OPS then we have a commodity that we can move if we need to. But what would we even trade him for? What is the Red Sox biggest position of need now when everything is pretty much rosey for us right now?

Biggest position of need will be starter next year. Pomeranz will most likely not be back.

Well do you think we could get a top 3 type starter in return for JBJ or would we strictly be looking at prospects coming back?

Not unless he can hit like 2016 again. Even then, it might have to be a package deal.

If DD can pluck the right prospects, it may be a better bet to go that route instead.

I can't wait to see that!

Actually I was disappointed that YOUK locked that game thread as early as he did. I was enjoying watching Harmony twist in the wind as he was trying to say it was a clean play.

Who are you going to believe, Harmony or your lying eyes? LOL

It wasn't the worst I've seen, but the spikes were up high, and they were aimed at the plant leg.

Holt should have bopped him in the head right there, but a 98 mph heater was better justice served.

I agree with you - I've seen a lot worse and I bet we all have. My whole bitch is that that is not a method of sliding that is taught anywhere in the world. If it is , it is being taught by idiots. When the spikes are up and do not contact the bag there is only one intention and it isn't good. He gets tossed right then and no one gets thrown at. If they truly are trying to protect these guys then that's what has to be done. For the record for perhaps the tenth time, I do not like the rule.

Brock Holt's so-called "plant leg" (which would not have been his pivot foot on a throw) was higher off the ground than Tyler Austin's incoming foot when contact was made at :48:

Austin's foot made contact with a moving object ... or vice versa.

Again, the MLB rule:

... and another hard slide:

Different interpretations may produce different results.

The point being made is not whether the slide was interpreted as being ok under the current rule or not. It is whether or not the slide was ethically acceptable or not. i guess the Red Sox felt that it was not. I agree with the home team on this one. I guess if a guy slides directly across the bag, he can get away with it. In this case, it was pretty obvious that he did not. He went directly at Holt with spikes up.

I hope they drill Austin again, and I rarely advocate for head-hunting. Maybe it's because he's a Yankee or maybe because its too early in the season for those type of slide. Maybe both.

Next time I hope Barnes does it, since losing him for 6 games seems like even less of a penalty. If Barnes gets it together, have Hembree drill Austin....

The incident should be over, really. If we start trading plunkings there's not only the risk of suspensions but of somebody getting hit in the wrong place by a pitch. No sense letting punks like Austin create those kinds of problems.

And of course that is how it will play out, which is very common when players do not land on the DL. I think watching any punk player slide like that in a game when his team is leading makes it even worse. But then this is one of many reasons I will never be tapped top be an MLB manager. ..

his head stays on the ball.

just google image jackie bradley swing.

Ok Slasher after the play I just saw JBJ make , I'm done talking about whether he needs to hit any better or not. He is just too much fun to watch in the field plus he will get his hits.

Although I've always said defensive metrics are not perfect, I use them a lot to support my opinions and beliefs.

I have to say, I don't understand how UZR/150 can have JBJ at =12.7 this year, and DRS has him at -3. I know it's a small sample size, but still...

He's the best Sox CF'er on defense I have ever seen. Freddy Lynn was great, darren Lewis, but JBJ is the man!

BOSTON -- Until Mookie Betts left the Red Sox's 10-3 win over the Orioles early on Saturday, forcing a shuffle in the Boston outfield, Jackie Bradley Jr. hadn't played right field since 2015. But it didn't look like it. Bradley made a spectacular catch on an Adam Jones line drive in the

No trade. Ride him out until his walk year, make the qualifying offer, let Borass fill his noggin with visions of 200 million then take the draft pick.

It should be over. From the Red Sox standpoint, I think they see the score as even.

No telling what the viewpoint is from the Yankees clubhouse.
