LOL what you have to realize, my friend, is that it doesn't matter whether you are cool as a cucumber or in full-on freakout mode. Your personal reactions don't impact anything and in fact don't matter at all.

I hope that helps. :D

You dang Canuck....... why are you the voice of reason on this board....???? I swear. you are like my spiritual guide always telling me the right thing to do and how to act.

Aren't you freaking out a bit yet Bell?????

As always, you are way more right than I am............ I'm still going to go wacko if we lose the next game..........

I'm quite fond of you Bell........I still swear we are like close friends in an alternative universe....

Grady Little , might disagree with you. He left Pedro in there because he didn't trust the pen, even though it was pitching good at the time. He still didn't trust it. It cost him his job.

Next year Mr. Faulke.... End of curse

Don't you always hear the angels break into a chorus of hallelujahs when that last thought is provoked? Heheh

So do we put Theo in this category? He gave up quite a bit to get Chapman on a rental and then Davis...

Yes and no.

He went all-in on Chapman, but when your team hasn't won a title since Teddy Roosevelt was president, I can understand the urgency factor.

As for Davis, did he really give up that much?

The Kimbrel trade is tricky, because you need a consistent closer. No good closer ,you just won't be able mix and match all year. I'll trade for an elite closer. If we just gave Miller an extra mill over the four year contact he got from NY we save three prospects. We didn't so now you have the trade market. I don't think Kimbrel is the problem here. I am more concerned with David Price getting 31M a year and might need TJS when all is said and done. I hope I'm wrong.

We hear you, brah! That is why I came on, to blow off some steam. It helps.

Kimmi is right, the hitting will come around. Not sure about the power as in years past but the hitting is still going to get better.

The starters will keep up their good work. Stephen will come around, Drew already has, Rick will, too and Sale is already on the (laser) beam. I am most concerned about Price but am hopeful he and (reliever) Carson Smith will be in full swing by June. Thornburg seems a mystery.

But the ALE is still a dadgum dog pound ... the Birds are doing the usual early hot stuff - I look for them to fade some. The NYYs are in a dream land and I hope it isn't a nightmare awakening for us. The Jays will stop stumbling soon. The Rays? I think they will be respectable but 4th or 5th. What some might have thought was gonna be a run away season for us will likely be a high run between Boston, the Bronx and Ballymore. I am still of the mind we will be 1st or 1st WC.

Yup...... I'm with you.

I really wished Price was in the ROTO. That would have been really cool to see.

Yea, the ALE is a beast........ A BEAST........ I'd like to see some of these chump AL central or west teams hang out in the ALE for a season......... they would be slaughtered.

Yaz........ thx.......... it's a long season......... I go barbarian sometimes and people straighten me out......I think we all do at some point in the season...

The crazy part of this all is I think Notin lives in Australia????? Is that right?

About a decade ago on a previous board I use to always read Noton's posts. Super knowledgeable. Always came away from reading his posts more informed.

Then one day, I read he lived in Australia............. is that right??????

Little undervalued his pen, although he did have a few season long reasons to justify it. Its also possible he was fired for not being Theo's guy.

Joe Maddon overused Chapman last year in the post-season and it nearly cost the Cubs the World Series. Think he would have been fired in that case?

A lights out closer is critical to success.

Not really true, as several teams. But rather than name examples, one simple question. If the Sox used Kimbrel to get the toughest outs on the other team rather than as a ninth inning specialist, like how the Guardians use Miller or the A's use Casilla, are the Sox a better team, worse team or the same?

Plus 10....... The closer role is bogus... It's almost a feel good story.

So if the Cubs had won back in 2003, Theo wouldn't have to worry so much about getting a big closer?

That's some pretty shaky reasoning IMHO.

How can a Sox fan say that?

I agree. The good wife could hardly care what the Sox do but she knows what they mean to me. She keeps me sane and every once in a while she pays my addiction some tidbits ... we were going by the grocery store last week and she noticed the sporting goods place had a 50% off sale, with just one or two Sox items out to be seen (I live among a host of NYY and Phillies fans) and we stopped in and picked up a folding chair and two good new lids. She would have gotten me more, but I resist the urge to outspend ... I don't have many vices but the Sox have been one since the earliest days... I watched them on my tablet at work the last two seasons, WHILE I worked, of course. I was on second then, now I'm on first shift and get to watch like "normal" people. Who wants to be called normal? But I'll take the frequency of watching relaxed and nerve-wracked. :)

I think the rest of the baseball world loves it when the ALE isn't in the WS push because they get a break from us. But we never get a break from us. Which division could have a rivalry as brutal as the O''s - Sox and it be delegated into oblivion because the other rivalry is Bombers - Sox?

GRRRRRR dangit Bell....

THey were great pitchers in the role they used. They didn't need to be used in the 9th always.

A good tactician could have used them at the right time, instead of waiting till the ninth....

Nononono, good Mr. Bellhorn. Nononononono..... You cannot propose such a possibility to Cubs fans. One of my best friends is a Cubbie lifer and the only reality until last October was that they did not, had not, maybe could not win it. "What ifs" are injured with quick and mortal blows. They are not allowed air to breathe. The only reality now is that Theo brought the end to the curse in Wrigley. Chapman was an integral and necessary cost, worth whatever.

I am only saddened that the effort richly rewarded the Yanquis so ....

OK that's fair enough, you're talking about the closer 'role'.

Yes...... the role......

I love relief pitching, They are like my favorite people. Some of them are total washouts....... and I love it when they succeed. Ross is like my favorite player. Koji was till we didn't sign him.

I think Barnes might be my new favorite player....... I'm not sure why. Maybe you can tell me....

I could have sworn that I read way back that you live in Aus,

Fair enough............ at least my mind isn't messed by thinking someone who lives thousands miles away knew so much about ball...

Maybe because he made Manny duck? And got a foul ball out of it (oh yeah, suspension and fine, too)

He can bring heat. That's always fun. But Koji was like watching a magician. Everyone knew he didn't have heat but he got em anyway. His energy and bright, oversized glove were all part of the act.

Why the hell didn't we sign Koji again....???? I wanted that dude to retire with a kick ass sendoff at Fenway.

I miss him too. He was amazing during the 2013 run. Baltimore cast off and Red Sox hero!!! Wheeeee! He even made the good wife laugh. He is so much better than Abad. (You can' t tell I have a problem with him, eh?) He wouldn't have cost much to sign.

Wrigley/Chicago ... where Red Sox heroes go to retire in further glory.

Only the spoiled Sox fans would think nothing of giving out a $6M contract for washed up reliever who can go MASH on moment's notice.

Yeah, it's much better having guys like Smith and Thornburg.

I'm kidding.

Hasn't every reliever we signed in the last decade for big money turned out bad?

Who were those last two guys we had? One from Oakland....... who collected major cash sitting in the MASH unit and not pitching once.

I miss Ugando........ the home runs he would give up were beautiful to watch....

Bobby Jenks, Andrew Bailey, Joel Hanrahan and Javier Lopez were some of my favorite relievers in recent memory. All beasts.

Melencal was awesome too. Remember that guy mowing down the opposing line up...... I sure dont...

Dunno I'd claim to be a spoiled Red Sox fan, but I am old enough and have been a Sox fan long enough to qualify as rotten, past my prime, over the hill ... but that can only endear an over the hill, past his prime reliever who is still mostly effective to one such as me. I have seen my fair share of poor relievers since 1962. Koji is still better than most.
