The term genius may not have been used, but I there are posters who are overly praising him, IMO.

IMO, the some of the best moves he has made are the under the radar types of moves, like Moreland and Ziegler. That's where I think he deserves praise.

Oh Kimmi, I know how much you like those kind of moves. :)

Some people really like the aggressive approach, that's for sure. But there haven't been too many plaudits for the Smith and Thornburg trades. When moves don't work out people will complain, whoever made them.

I certainly can agree with this. Sometimes the best moves are the ones that aren't the flashiest ones. As I posted in another thread, I believe DD recently made a trade that will help the Sox tremendously in avoiding that much dreaded "cliff" when he traded three players for more International signing money, and it flew mostly under the radar.

Evidently Longhi was the centerpiece of the deal(s) and that was made possible by the team's depth at 1B with both Sam Travis and Josh Ockimey sandwiched around Longhi.

Interesting point (to me, anyway!) about Longhi. He's mentioned as being the best pure hitter hitters in the Sox system in spite of his having little power. So what's he doing at 1B where power is a ++ attribute?

Fister and Boyer are not so bad either.

So far, no, but I just listed the major acquisitions. I could have listed Aaron Hill, Peralta, Abad and others.

They had started playing him in the OF, but clearly our OF is blocked for years to come as well.

Yeah, it is kind of the point. Dombrowski is being touted as some kind of genius pulling off these signings and these trades, but if you're willing to overpay, any GM can do that. And Dombrowski is doing it with resources made available to him by Ben.

Would Ben have made the same moves? Probably not. Would he have made moves to get the Sox back in the playoffs last year if given the chance? I'm 100% certain of it.

I truly believe Ben would have made a blockbuster deal like the Sale one. I do not think he'd trade Espi for Pom or Shaw for Thornburg, but I seriously doubt he'd have kept all the top prospects. There just wasn't enough room for all to play, even if he wanted to keep them all.

It's impossible to know what he'd have done, but I'm sure his plan did not include total prospect hoarding and no trades or big signings.

Agreed. He would not have been as aggressive as Dombrowski was, but he would have made moves to get the team to the postseason.

I do not believe that Longhi is in our organization any more.
