I am hopeful beeks gets a chance in a couple of weeks to pitch in Boston.

He or Johnson has to be a better option than fister.

Johnson has just struggled to stay healthy. No one really knows how Beeks' stuff will play in MLB. Maybe he pitches well, maybe it's batting practice?

I'd give him a shot in September for sure.

Chavis and Travis with dingers tonight (Wed).

With all the creamed jeans over Brentz and his mega HR stretch, he's kind of cooled off over the last 11 games.

10 games without an HR or RBI.

.220 BA

0 for his last 16

For those wanting to play "the hot hands", is Brentz "hot" or not?

Is he a better choice vs LHPs than Young now?

Who knows?

He couldn't do much worse than Young, who has, incredibly, 1 home run and 4 RBI against lefties all year.

You were actually one of the posters who got me all worked up about Brentz...I don't usually even follow the minor league stats.

So take that!

I got excited over Brentz as well, but I was mostly gearing this post towards those who have been using most recent tiny sample sizes to guide their suggestions. O for 15 is really bad, really tiny and really recent.

He went 0 for 16 and then hit the game winning RBI in his next at bat. That's ok by me.

Chavis hit a HR today finished season with 31, but ended in a slump. Finished at .250, last 30 days hit .190. Was hoping he would finish strong up to .298 at one point in Double AA.

So, these are the final numbers...

31 Brentz

31 Chavis

28 Barfield

28 Devers and counting...

He was selling out for power and waiting on fastballs to pull. That's not long term success material.

On the last SoxProspects podcast, they noted how Barfield's HR total is indicative of him just being able to wait for bad pitches and that he'd never see the same flat sliders or poorly located offspeed stuff in MLB.

Probably the same for Brentz to some extent.

It just doesn't project to the bigs.

That being said, I'd have given Brentz a shot this September, even if just as a PH'er to start.

Thought I heard Chavis going to AFL to play 1st base.

The 2017 Arizona Fall League rosters have been announced, with seven members of the Red Sox set to play for the Peoria Javelinas. They will send infielders Michael Chavis, Josh Tobias, and Chad De La Guerra, and pitchers Brian Johnson, Henry Owens, Ty Buttrey, and Bobby Poyner. Former Red Sox prospect Javier Guerra will also play with the Javelinas.

On Brentz...

We are going to have to trade or DFA some players to make room for rule 5 additions, so we probably already know who is going to go.

We could have jumped the gun and made room for Brentz on the 40 man by getting rid of someone we are bound to get rid of later this fall.

Here are the rule 5 players:

Victor Acosta, Yoan Aybar, Trey Ball, Jalen Beeks, Danny Bethea, Jordan Betts, Ty Buttrey, Rusney Castillo, Harrison Cooney, Jake Cosart, Enmanuel De Jesus, Jhonathan Diaz, Willis Figueroa, Pat Goetze, Daniel Gonzalez, Justin Haley, Juan Hernandez, Bryan Hudson, Dedgar Jimenez, Raiwinson Lameda, Isaias Lucena, Danny Mars, Algenis Martinez, Kevin McAvoy, Daniel McGrath, Ritzi Mendoza, Mike Meyers, Mike Miller, Samuel Miranda, Joseph Monge, Jhon Nunez, Justin Pacchioli, Yankory Pimentel, Jordan Procyshen, Hildemaro Requena, Jeremy Rivera, Fernando Rodriguez, Jake Romanski, Chandler Shepherd, Josh Smith, Teddy Stankiewicz, Cole Sturgeon, Aneury Tavarez, Carlos Tovar, Jantzen Witte

Here are some players that could have been traded or DFA'd:

Henry Owens

Holt or Marrero (with Hernandez and Lin, we don't need both for 2018.

Elias or Kyle Martin

Hembree is out of options and may not make the 25 man roster next year. We could have traded him.

Boyer

Young

All we needed was to decide on one of these guys. I'm sure DD already knows which one will not be on the 40 man roster by rule 5 time.

Yes, it's obvious they have no faith in BB.

There were several easy options to add Brentz to the roster. They must not have felt they'd use BB this year (or next, as he will be a minor league FA this winter.)

I doubt he'd have made a difference, but I felt like he should have at least been given a chance to PH here and there this month. If he did well, he could have been given more playing time.

Dalbec 0 for 4 with 3 strike outs tonight.

Mata threw 92 pitches over 4.1 innings with 0 er and 7 k's.

Greenville lost 2 to 1.

Mata moved from 16th to 5th on soxprospects.com (before this game).

Once Devers graduates, he could move to #1 or 2.

With Devers graduation I also see him jumping ahead of Travis but I'm not sure I'd put him ahead of Groome or Chavis just yet. He's still young and very far away.

I look forward to their season ending rankings podcast.

Yeah, 3 is probably his next stop.

"According to multiple sources, top Red Sox prospect Daniel Flores is dealing with a serious medical condition that could impact his 2018 season.

While the exact diagnosis isn't known, the 17-year-old was recently in Boston to address the situation."

Park his ass at Childern's Hospital and let Harvard figure it out.
