LOL Not really since Cla was brought up a few posts back, which reminded me about that.

While on the topic of words/pronuncations that sit well with me:

dough, cough, through, bough, rough

All end in 'ough', all pronounced differently. What's up with that?

At least you're being thorough...

What's the downside of playing Devers? Unless DD is thinking about trading him, I'd say nothing. If he struggles, send him back down.

Please spare me of hurting his confidence, etc. If he's that weak mentally, then he'll never make it.

I agree with you, right now it would not hurt to see.

About the time I start thinking that Sandy Leon has reverted to the old days of good glove no stick, look what he does. You never know with these guys.

Devers needs defensive work. After the suck that had been Sandoval, Rutledge, and Hernandez defensively, you're about to get Holt back. You need at least good D from third. Holt will provide this. Let the kid develop defensively first

Actually his defense has been good. I forgot who said it but they said he would.be there best defensive third basemen right now. Definitely a more finished third basemen then Moncada when he was called up.

Devers walked twice last night. Will they start to pitch around him in AA?

I trust DD to do the right thing. He's on record as saying jump from AA to majors is not unthinkable.

I can't believe I'm saying this but maybe Holt will lend stability to the situation while Pablo rehabs.

I hope he doesn't think believe it's "unthinkable" since he did it twice last year.

That's always how I felt. I, however, trust management to know when a player has the fundamentals down enough not to embarrass himself.

And this demonstrates the strengths and weaknesses of accumulated statistical averages in baseball. I already could see the team had good hitting when the power numbers and runs scored were down. But accumulated stats don't show you how these numbers were accumulated. One big offensive game has skewed the results more positively. But you only need to beat your opponent by one run. So it really matters how and when you accumulate those numbers, especially in the short run. In the long run, the numbers and the team win/loss result should be more in sync. I think this is a good hitting team and I expect the numbers to improve both in accumulated averages and in individual games.

My guess is most team's stats are greatly helped by 2-3 games- not just the Sox.

The only difference was we had our 2 big games later than others.

I do think we'll be seeing more runs scored from here on out- with a couple small team slumps thrown in here and there.

I agree with your point about confidence. If any player is that weak mentally, then he probably won't make it in the majors regardless of when he's called up.

That said, a downside to calling someone up too soon is that you start the player's clock, which means if he's not quite ready, you're trading some of his prime value in the future for perhaps lesser value of the player today.

If it's a dire situation, then it would make sense. Is our situation dire right now? I don't think so. I say let him develop some more in the minors until/unless we really need him.

All that said, I trust the managers/coaches to make the right decision on him either way.

Imo, the Sox don't have to pull their hair over starting the clock. Their owners aren't struggling to make payroll.

I have the same issue with calling Devers up that I had with Beni - if they have to send him down then 2017 is an option year. I'm not sure that we're not at "dire" stage yet though. IMO we've passed "dire" and rapidly approaching "panic".

Providing his defense is as advertised, I'm about a week from having Devers called up in spite of the option year issue. If he's any worse offensively than who's playing 3B for us now.... would it matter?

I don't think we're at the dire stage. Otherwise, I would agree.

They have enough money to make the landing fairly soft.
