I can't believe Showalter didn't get Britton into that game. That is so indefensible. I was watching the Vice Presidential debate and then turned to the game kind of late. At that point, it was tied and Britton wasn't in there. I naturally assumed Showalter had already used Britton for two innings. I found out at the end that Showalter didn't use him at all. Showalter deserves to lose his job for this blunder (comparable to Grady Little). Showalter tried to defend the decision in the press conference but it seems indefensible to me.

Britton is the best relief pitcher in baseball this year. He has to pitch two innings in that game. It's as simple as that. Britton has given up only one HR this year and that was early in the year against Mookie Betts.

I know U.Jimenez has been pitching well, but he was pitching well as a starter, not a reliever. You can't bring Jimenez in over Britton. Jimenez has been an inconsistent pitcher throughout his career--you can't count on him at all.

Saving Britton for a save situation doesn't really work there. A better strategy is to get two innings out of Britton and hope your team scores some runs. You worry about the save situation later. In saving Britton for a save situation, the Orioles would be using Britton for one inning rather than two. J.Torre gets M.Rivera into that game and doesn't worry about the save situation. Instead, Torre would want to get two innings out of Rivera, the best move in an elimination game.

On the road, extra innings, elimination game? Run prevention is practically more important than run creation. I don't see the logic of "well, we'll get through these first extra innings with inferior pitchers and save our best guy for when we get the lead." Ubaldo coming off a 1 hitter, ok, but 1.56 WHIP and ERA of 5.44 on the season. Britton had to pitch in that game. He had to.

I would happily engage Familia as a setup man or middle reliever, but I think his career as a closer is more or less done between what happened this year and the chokefest in 2016. He is very very skilled, but has proved again and again that he can't handle closing under the bright lights. If I was the Mets, I would look at bringing in an aging closer type to "set up" for Familia, someone not unlike Koji, and then swap to him when the playoffs start.

Conor Gillaspie? Haha Mets fans must be bordering on suicidal right now. That's as bad as the Yankees giving up a HR to Alex Gonzalez in the 2003 WS.
I was at last night's game. In the 8th inning when the Reed loaded the bases to face Pence, I said to my friend that it was good to clear Posey and Pence for the 9th inning, because the bottom of the Giants order stinks. Then I added -- of course it would be the Met way to let Connor Gillespie beat them. In the 9th we were hoping to get Panik out so they could walk Gillespie and force a PH for Bumgarner. Live, Gillespie's shot looked like it would beat Bruce, but I didn't think it would clear the fence by that much. What was the reaction by the announcers?

As for the Mets fans being suicidal, most did not expect to make the post season.

I'm really into the Dodger/Cubs series, wanting to see the Dodgers pull off the major upset. If they can win 2 out of 3 in LA, they will be set up nicely to win the series especially if the Dodgers can save Kershaw for game 6. To make that work, they probably need to win game 3 with R.Hill. I wouldn't be surprised to see them come back with Kershaw in game 5.

I think the Red Sox and Blue Jays are better than the Guardians and yet the Guardians are one game away from going to the World Series. The Guardians could be like the 2007 Rockies, they go on an amazing run, but then reality catches up to them in the World Series.

It's awesome when a team goes up 3 games to none. The sports media will reference the 2004 Red Sox against the Yankees, the biggest collapse in the history of sports.

Well Cleveland is up 3 games to 0. Unless they have a total melt down they should have this thing in the bag. I'm hoping for a Cubs Guardians World Series.... with the Cubs winning it all. Just glad the Jays are losing. An absolute thing of beauty!!

Probably because the Sox actually got to the postseason this year, I'm somewhat interested in the current series. To me the ALCS and NLCS both confirm the primacy of pitching--especially game 2 of the NLCS when Kershaw shut down the Cubs 1-0. In 3 games the Jays have scored 1, 0, and 2 runs, and that third game includes having to pull the Guardians starter in the first inning.

Youk has a point about game 4 of the ALCS, but I still see Cleveland going to the WS. They are getting great pitching and just enough hitting.

As for the NLCS, I think the Cubs take it, but I am rooting for the Dodgers.

Young Lindor is a switch hitting Mookie Betts. They even look alike! Go get him, D.D.! Offer Bogy and Bradley. The Guardians COULD bite!

You can say that again.

Well f***...... I was really hoping for a sweep.

Well, at least we have another game to watch.

The Guardians need to wrap it up tomorrow though.

We don't want the Jays getting too hopeful.
