He wasn't pitching "poorly", but he certainly was not pitching as well as expected.

 

I wasn't happy with his early season productivity, but I never felt he couldn't or wouldn't turn things around.

 

Maybe it was just an adjustment period. Beckett had a longer one than his.

 

Maybe he just had a rough stretch, and now we'll see 10 weeks + of brilliance.

Price struggled early in the game. It's not good when your team scores 2 to give you the lead against a tough pitcher, then you give the 2 runs right back.

 

That said, Price settled in nicely and went on to pitch a very good game. One of the qualities on an ace is to be able to adjust and overcome early struggles, then shut the opponent down for the remainder of the outing, rather than imploding. Price did just that.

 

Very nice job, and great job by the offense to take it to Duffy.
