before jacko get to start one.

Roll his ankle and his knees seems caught in between. Hopefully it's day to day, anything else is calamity given the struggles of many regulars. NES been a major boost in LF and the lineup.

I just saw the play. Basically a non contact knee injury. That's not a good thing. I hope he didn't blow out the knee, but I'd be worried about an ACL with that kind of mechanism

I haven't seen the play and wonder what happened. With men on 2nd and 3rd and no one out, the hope is that Pedey gets a hit. The best approach for a hitter is to go behind the runners if possible and to elevate the ball into the outfield is even better. Pedey is a hot hitter but major league pitching is hard to hit where you want to so I don't fault Pedey in this one bit. Then the question is whether Shaw should have run or it was a blunder on Beni's part heading toward third. The result is bad for the kid and also bad for the team as he has done a very good job since coming up. We all can hope that he didn't seriously damage his knee with ligament damage. Left field for the Red Sox this year has produced more injuries and appears to be cursed.

He should have kept going and stop between 2nd and 3rd....forcing the SS to decide whether to go first or get either Benintendi or Shaw. Or just stayed put at 2B.

he is done for the season. no doubt. unless we can get ahold of Pettitte's dr. rolled his ankle and in turn torqued his knee ligaments.

hopefully Sox brass has been paying attention to Moon and has been giving Moncada reps in LF. if not, they best to get him up to speed out there ASAP.

although i would have preferred moncada to be our 3bman as clearly we do not have one that can hit a baseball.......

rookie mistake. beni acted like the contact play was on when it apparently wasnt. at least shaw didnt think it was. beni stopped short when he realized it and then fast twitched reversed to back towards second at the same time he was trying to avoid the tag so he extended his leg too far, rolled his ankle, and twisted his knee awkwardly. i dont think he will be walking for awhile......

If Benintendi is out for a long stretch, don't be surprised to see Rusney Castillo called up. Who knows maybe he can help out and get lucky for a short time. I can't front, I am pissed off right now.

From a McAdams atricle:

"Right now, it's just stiff," explained Benintendi. "We're just going to come back tomorrow and see how it feels.

"It was bad baserunning. It shouldn't have happened. I shouldn't have made a move toward third base. That was my mistake."

This kid is great. He f***ed up and took ownership of it. What's not to like about him?

Posted
Once he made the mistake - the move probably should have been getting into a pickle and giving Shaw a chance to score ... but I am not blaming him. That is the toughest baserunning play around - when a ball is zipped right at a fielder ... he clearly owned the mistake.

he is damaged goods now. especially when alot of his game is speed. and due to small frame alot of "power" comes from the lower half. i am now rescinding my "HoF" tag on this young man. :(

Yup, I really like how he owned it. Terrible break for him. Hopefully, it's not as bad as we fear, but I'm afraid we've seen the last of him this season.

I was going to mention Rusney. Apparently, he's been putting up some pretty good numbers recently.

If LF is indeed cursed, can we activate Pablo and put him there? (I kid, I kid) Edited by Nick

Sox are calling it a sprained knee so we can be sure he will have reconstructive surgery this winter.
He has been placed on the DL. We have probably seen the last of him for 2016, and if he needs reconstructive surgery, we will not see him again until the ASB in 2017. What a shame. He was a lot of fun to watch. He has such a sweet swing at the plate and he was already a very tough out. Going forward if this turns out to be reconstructive surgery this could change the trajectory of his career -- a lilltle guy with a bum wheel. His legs are a big part of his game. He is more of a triples guy than a home run hitter.

I was being sarcastic about the Sox medical staff.

I agree with everything you said in this post. What a surprise!

I wonder if it's time to bring Brandon Moss home. Moss is to righties as Young is to lefties, and we have holes at corner OF and 1B, both of which he plays. we also have a hole next year at DH. We could definitely give him playing time and he may wind up filling a need. We could have a formal platoon in left and Moss could also spell Hanley at first or DH from time to time. I think he'd be a great fit.

I always liked Brandon Moss. He's like Bryce Brentz on steroids (in a non-medical, non pharmaceutical way).

Why would the Cardinals, in the midst of a pennant hunt, give up one of their top run-producers?

Ahh, my mistake in not being clear enough. I was thinking more of an offseason move, which is why I mentioned the gap at DH.

The Red Sox have placed left fielder Andrew Benintendi on the disabled list following last night’s knee injury, the team told reporters, including Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald (Twitter link). Benintendi, who was initially diagnosed with a left knee sprain, underwent an MRI this morning, and while the results are still being evaluated, the Sox felt it was a serious enough injury to warrant this move. Infielder Marco Hernandez is being recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket in his place.

Mastrodonato tweets that Chris Young will receive the majority of the at-bats in left field with Benintendi on the shelf, with Brock Holt getting some occasional time there as well as he bounces around the diamond. Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe tweets that manager John Farrell said that the Sox are hoping this isn’t a season-ending injury for their standout rookie, but Abraham adds that said sentiment seems to be “more wishful thinking than anything.”

Benintendi suffered the injury while attempting to get back to second base on what ultimately went down as a ground-ball double play. Benintendi had to be helped off the field after his ankle rolled significantly and his knee bent in an awkward direction (video link), though Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald tweets that his ankle is “fine.” Benintendi hasn’t been with the Sox long, debuting on Aug. 2, but his production will nonetheless be difficult to replace. In 74 plate appearances, the 2015 No. 7 overall pick is hitting .324/.365/.485 with a homer, six doubles and a triple already to his credit.

Is it encouraging that Beni is walking around and putting pressure on his knee, albeit very gingerly? If it were something that required surgery, wouldn't they keep him off of it?

I still don't think he'll be able to return this year, but I'm hoping he won't require surgery that keeps him out through part of next year.

I know I a guy that blew out both knees skiing and he went to the airport flew home and had his double reconstructive knee surgery in NY, so I don't think we can take to much encouragement from the fact that he is walking around. However, it is not a bad sign either.

If he's healthy for Truck Day, I'll call it good enough. I do hold out a little hope that he might be able to come back in a limited role if we go deep enough into the postseason.

I'll say this. It's more encouraging that he's walking on it than it would be if he couldn't walk on it.

I have seen some posters saying what they would do before/after 9-1. So here I go.

I would give XB a rest. I think it is a fatigue thing JMO. Will they do it no. What I would do drop him down in the lineup for a few games or let him catch his breath and play Holt at SS. As I am watching this unfold Hill brings us nothing ,sorry to say.. He is just not suited to play twice a week, and does not deserve to play more as well. Some are suited he's not. The 2016 version of him. Ok. I'm getting to my point I bring Moncada up for the road trip and hit him 8/9 sharing time with Shaw and yes giving Hanley some time to rest his wrist occasionally. I would also like to see DD make a waiver deal. A Boone Logan type. As far as the 7-4 road trip, let's assume Toronto wins tonight ,I haven't checked the score yet, they will be one game behind. I will take that. Lets play this honest and smart and get back into first place by next road trip ,should be the goal.

This last road trip was a Bitch, with the rain delays , early tee time @ DET the other rain delay Saturday night, Owens getting shelled still came out of it good. The Beni injury sucks I'm still pissed about that . The kid would have hit 300 All the way through.

All my spelling and grammar errors are my own fault.. But I know the Bosox good lol
