Are you f***ing kidding me, that's how they lose? This team has lost at least 3-4 games this year on ******** walkoffs where they should've won the game.

Second walk-off lose by throwing the ball away on defense. Just inexcusable. Where are the fundamentals with this team?

I think its at least the 3rd. Didn't we lose a game against Toronto on a s***** error and then lose a game on Hanley's s***** error against the Angels?

f*** that. This offense needs a shake up.

It's just a slump. We still have 8 of our top 11 PA players with an OPS over .800.

10 out of 11 are over .700.

Once Young and Leon pass Vaz in PAs, we will be able to say 10 out of top 10 PA players have an OPS over .700.

Just because we go a couple games without scoring much, doesn't mean our weak link is our offense.

Hembree got lazy getting over there last inning. This time he muffed it. Then couldn't make a half decent throw at home.

Ugh!!

He was lazy again getting there the 2nd time.

Beni's injury is exactly why you don't put my name inthe thread title. :(

I hate basesball.

I apologize. Clearly I screwed up this thread from the get go and brought pain and suffering upon the House of Talksox.

Now that I've had overnight to digest what I saw last night--all the way to the bitter end--these thoughts--

1. The Rays may be last in the AL East but they aren't terrible. See our win Tues night for confirmation. They rely on pitching and Longoria, which right now is not that much different from us relying on our rotation and Ortiz. Plus the Rays clearly have a better bullpen.

2. Hembree's error in the 11th was an act of mercy because we were never, ever going to score again in that game. It was also not an easy play because pf the narrow margin created more by Shaw's needing time to get to the ball than by Hembree's slowness to 1B. Hembree actually made a pretty good recovery to throw home and beat the runner, but Leon couldn't keep it in his glove--no error charged to Leon.

3. Top of the 7th was to me the key play. Men on 2d and 3d, no one out, and the top of the order coming to bat. Pedroia had the perfect pitch to get the ball into the air, but instead hit an easy grounder to a drawn in infield. Benintendi, not to be outdone by his senior, turned that grounder into one of the easiest GIDP's you'll ever see and hurt himself in the process. Maybe Shaw should have been sent home, but the real issue was not making sure Benintendi knew what to do on a grounder. He assumed Shaw would go on contact, but that's not necessarily the right play with no one out and men on 2d and 3d.

4. Porcello showed a lot of guts. He hung that curve--right over the geometric center of the strike zone to Longoria who can hit curves--but was probably a better choice to pitch to Longoria than Ross the lefty. I agree it is arguable that Ross should have pitched the entire 8th inning, but Porcello was going great guns in the 4th thru 7th innings. He was in a groove. And our bullpen continues to be problematical.

5. Hill pinch-hitting for Holt was a classic demonstration of the value of a deep and capable bullpen. As soon as Hill went in, Tampa brought in a righty to get another K of the 14 K's they got in this game.

6. Bradley K'd 4 times, which tells me he is always capable of sliding back to his former self. Bogaerts is also sliding--0 for 5 with 2 K's and 4 LOBsters. He is clearly slumping.

7. Anyone who thinks Ortiz shouldn't bat 3d in this current lineup is blind and/or ignorant. He is far and away our best hitter right now. Betts may not be the best fit for 4th, but he is the best guarantee that Ortiz will get "a pitch to hit," which is exactly what Manny Ramirez used to do.

Man, for someone who goes after A700 for his "word choice," that's a little weird for you to write. Whatever...

Whether you agree or disagree with leaving Porcello in, one hting to consider. He had just come off of three straight stress free innings. Eck has often said you can throw all night if no one's on base. 80 pitches with guys constantly on is a lot more taxing than 110 with no one on.

A loss will be on the offense tonight. Both last night and tonight they have failed to cash in on numerous golden opportunities.

Porcello was cruising, and he had handled Longoria very well in his previous at bats this game. I was actually excited to see him come back out for the 8th.

Farrell did state that if Porcello had gotten Longoria out, he was going to bring Ross in to face Miller. Once Longoria tied the game, he had to shift gears and manage for the possibility of extra innings. People can agree or disagree with that thinking, but it's very rational.

We've had 4 walk off losses. Three of them have come by way of an error.

"House of Talksox"

That was actually pretty funny. Well done.

Agreed. One of my favorite GTs in quite some time.

1. It doesn't matter how bad a team is, sweeping any team is difficult to do, much less sweeping a 4 game series. The Jays lost to the hapless Angels yesterday also.

3. If there is a way for our offense to squander a scoring opportunity, they will find it. I was sure we would get at least one run that inning, but no. Whether Butter should have sent the runners is debatable, but either way, Beni made a rookie mistake. I fear that we have seen the last of him this season.

4. I have no problem with the decision to bring Porcello out for the 8th, then to let him finish the 8th once the score was tied.

5. It's also a classic demonstration of why managers sometimes don't bring in the "obvious" pinch hitter. The opposing manager will just counter the move with a different reliever.

7. I don't think Ortiz should bat 3rd, and I can promise you that I am neither blind nor ignorant, at least when it comes to baseball. Your best hitter should not be batting 3rd. Ortiz' best slot in the line up is 4th because of his power. Not that it matters much.

Betts is the most dynamic player on this roster. He has all the hits tool, plus he is a great base runner. He can't do much of the latter with the base clogged up before him. Move him back to the lead off if he isn't hitting in front of Ortiz. Get him more PAs.
