Farrell continues to show his usual stupidity. Why in the f*** would you not have Shaw-Pedroia and Hernandez hit? Pedroia for Shaw move was one that didn't need to be made. If you are making a decision between letting Shaw and Vazquez hit, its obvious, Shaw, I don't care how much of a slump he's been in.

And WHY would you put Ryan Cock Sucking Lamarre in the game? Who/WHAT/WHY/WHERE.

Then after pitching back to back games we need to put Kimbrel in again? Cmon now, now we wasted him and he'll need at least one game off.

For f*** sake this team is frustrating.

This team, except for Wright, who pitched his heart out, played like s*** tonight and you want to blame it on Farrell? The first five hitters in the lineup were hitless. We had two errors. Vazquez had two passed balls, including one that brought in an unearned run. Pedroia came up with the bases loaded and no outs and had one of the absolutely dumbest at bats I've ever seen when he repeatedly took the pitcher off the hook by wildly swinging at pitches outside the strike zone. He finally struck out on a fast ball right down the geometric center of the plate. Vazquez, who had two hits in the game and should have batted in the 9th, repeated Pedroia's performance.

I am always astounded when fans see the players just stink it up and blame everything on the manager.

This team right now looks like s***. We need to win these games when wright and price pitch. You know what's coming up. Straight garbage!!! I have no confidence in our next two starters.

A completely appropriate and deserved loss. Tonight our Sox, with the singular exception of Wright, who was great, did everything possible to lose tonight's game. But the single worst play of the night was not the two errors or the two passed balls or even the first five players getting one lousy hit. No. It was Pedroia striking out with the bases loaded and no one out and the pitcher having trouble hitting the strike zone. Pedroia is one of my all time favorite Sox players, but tonight he had his head up his ass.

I don't get the Farrell blame though, how does a team have the bases loaded and no one out and not score with Dustin Pedroia up? This loss is on the players for absolutely pathetic execution.

Farrell made the right call. Shaw has been terrible against lefties, and you absolutely bet on the platoon advantage, especially with three righties in a row, and a pitcher historically vulnerable to opposite side batters. They choked.

CRAP CRAP CRAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!this loss really hurts.

I don't question the Pedey for Shaw sub. The Lamarre sub maybe, but Castillo probably wasn't going to do anything anyway.

Young bunting you might look at. I haven't seen Young bunt before, but I think from the info we gather with him going after a pitch that was going to hit him that maybe Young isn't such a good person to bunt.

We choked is the correct analysis.

Castillo has been placed on waivers; he's no longer even on the 40 man roster, let alone the active one.

The options were the right handed hitter LaMarre or lefty swingers Leon and Marrero. None of those is a going to be confused with Minny Minoso or Gates Brown.

Brain fart.... no idea why I thought Castillo..... I guess just half paying attention.

Hernandez was pinch hit for. Hernandez has hit ok for us.? I'm assuming lefty vs righty matchup was selected. I have no idea who LeMarre is.

1. It wasn't right down the middle, it was low in the zone.

2. Pedroia did get a fastball, 93 mph, in the geometric center of the strike zone and missed it completely.

Despite Wright's heroics, which have been considerable, our guys have been outplayed, including two errors, and I think at least one PB, which let in Chicago's first run.

It always amazes me when fans want to blame the manager when the players are stinking it up. Our first five hitters were hitless tonight. Pedroia struck out with the bases loaded when the pitcher lacked control and would have walked him. Vazquez did the same thing--turned a walk into an out. Either player walking would have won the game.

What are you talking about with the lack of control stuff? Every pitch to Pedroia was around the plate. And as you said the pitch he struck out on was down the middle.

Steph's weiner game is STRONG.

Of course Farrell made the right calls. Did they bring this rookie up so he could polish their new shoes. Hind sight is a terrible waste of time. Pedroia swung at a pitch that would have taken his helmet off. None of us expected that! I'm calling it a freakish game, probably not repeatable.

I'm also going to look for the turn around. What would it do for this team for Buchholz to come out, beat Sales (maybe 6 to 2 with HR's from Betts and Bogaerts)?

Stephen Curry needs to stick to basketball--baseball's a little to subtle for him. I guess it's a plus he didn't complain that Farrell didn't have his best shooters in there at the end of the game or that Kimbrel should have used up more of the shot clock before throwing.

Good advice on both points--Farrell's managing and looking for the turnaround.

Trade bait.

This is a .500 team.

If they go .500 the rest of the way, they'll wind up with 86 wins and still be in the hunt for the WC. I'm ok with it. As long as they are close in September.

That is not what I was suggesting.

I am glad that most night when they take the field I believe that they have a chance to win.

So why do you say they're a .500 team?

Without Wright (who has come out of nowhere to be an ace), I agree with Spud, this is a .500 team. Facacta statistical projections do not convince me otherwise. Most of these statistical projections are no better than anyone's guesses.

Pythagorean deserves some respect. IMO of course.

did anyone really predict 69 wins for the 2012 team?

year / pyth / diff from actual

2015 81-81 (+3 wins from actual)

2014 72-90 (+1)

2013 100-62 (+3)

2012 74-88 (+5)

2011 94-68 (+4)

2010 88-74 (-1)

2009 93-69 (-2)

2008 95-67 (0)

Were those pre-season projections?

also i would say porcellos 8-2 record is more of a factor to the teams over .500 success than wrights (or prices) 8-4 record.

no. it's Pythagorean. i'm not sure if trolling or what.

Pythagorean tells you what your record should be based on your stats.

so to say the 2016 team is a ".500" team is incorrect. at least according to the stats.

You had asked if any of us had predicted that the 2012 would win 69 games. Then you posted a bunch of statistics that were impressive if they had been predictions or projections. That is why I asked whether those were pre-season projections. My answer to your original question is that I did not predict 69 wins for the 2012 team, but my prediction for the 2012 team after the season was over was more accurate than Pythagorean's record of 73 wins.
