I strongly disagree with this. I am one of the biggest "no brainer" defenders last offseason, and I see it as anything other than a no brainer this season.

What if he pitches like a #2 the rest of the way?

He could get his ERA down below 4.50, have about 170 IP at year end if it breaks right for him. I think he could replicate his 2012 numbers this year.

One year can make a big difference.

Previous year's performance is a big factor in the decision, IMO.

Well, I hope Dombrowski gives weight to an entire career over the most recent season. Couldn't this year just be a blip?

Like I said, if he has a miraculous revival it could change the outlook.

His age is a factor now too. If he can't pitch worth s*** any more he just might be done.

I still think there may be some lingering medical issues but that's just speculation on my part.

If he does that, then certainly the Sox have to seriously consider picking up the option. Either way, the decision is not a no brainer this year.

I'm sure he gives weight to the entire career. This year could be a blip. All I'm saying is that his performance in the year prior is a big factor. The circumstances with Clay have changed a lot from last year to this year.

Were 2012 & 2014 "blips" too?

Maybe the Giants steal his powers in even years? If so, he's due for a good year in 2017.

Not really. He pitched very well in 2015. He can't pitch for s*** in 2016. Sort of a difference there, from where I sit anyway.

My brain must be deteriorating very rapidly. I don't remember Buch pitching "very well" as far back as the first half of 2013.

I'm sure WAR says otherwise.

He's been pitching like #2 all season.

Gave up 4 or more runs in 28% of his starts last year.

He's at 7 for 54% this year.

Here's his game log from my favorite site: http://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=3543&position=P&type=&gds=&gde=&season=2015 He just can't stay health and pitch well at the same time.

He is better than Price!

That's an idiotic statement. Although at times price has pitched like clay. So maybe you are on to something. But to say clay is better than price is kind of dumb. You may want to try another sport.

His ERA for 2015 was 3.26.

Price has 13 QS. Clay has 3 QS. They are like the same pitcher. It's just one digit off!

Ummmm. What? That's a bit unnecessary.....

Let me know which part of my post you think is incorrect. Or shall we just curse at people?

Your baseball acumen is sorely lacking as evidence by many of your posts. Just a friendly observation.

His pattern has been good half seasons and lousy almost full seasons with an occasional lousy half season. When he was healthy, he could dominate, but I think those days are over. The stuff doesn't seem to be there anymore.

You add nothing. And you will be going to ignore soon.

Believe it or not, every now and then, these guys actually try to have a little fun here. If your feelings are hurt, that's one thing, but if you truly have any question about the baseball acumen of most of the regulars who have posted here for awhile, you are really mistaken.

Yes, I know.

How many innings did he pitch?

I can cherry pick too.

No disrespect intended.

Clearly a700 was being sarcastic. Yet you found it necessary to insult him by suggesting that he find another sport.

I do like all the tits in your avatars, though.

None taken, it's all just jibber-jabber anyway. But he pitched a few more innings last year than he did in 2013 so I don't really think it was cherry-picking.

All we can do is jibber jabber until Friday. Stupid All Star Break!
