I'd like to see us get Lucroy if we can get him without giving up Moncada. Would be a huge pick up. We need a take charge guy behind the plate and give Vaz time to mature.

Big move by the Nats:

[h=2]Nationals To Acquire Mark Melancon[/h] By Jeff Todd | July 30, 2016 at 2:00pm CDT

The Nationals have struck a deal to acquire Pirates closer Mark Melancon, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (links to Twitter). Southpaw Felipe Rivero is one of the players heading to Pittsburgh in return, per Rosenthal, with multiple prospects also included in the package, according to Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com (via Twitter).

Washington has long been connected to the top of the relief market with incumbent Jonathan Papelbon struggling to hold down the ninth. The Nats picked him up this time last year, but while he had at least gotten the job done despite declining peripherals, the results have been bleak of late.

For the Bucs, it’s surely tough to part with such an integral part of the team with contention still in sights. But the club faces an uphill road despite its 52-49 record, with a powerful Cubs team still pacing the division and several other quality clubs angling for a Wild Card berth. After losing two consecutive play-in games, Pittsburgh obviously felt it wasn’t worth passing on this opportunity — particularly since the club still figures to have a solid shot despite giving up Melancon. After all, Rivero will likely slot right into the Pirates pen, possibly constituting part of the Bucs’ late-inning mix — in the future, if not right away.

I wouldn't give up Beni or Swihart + Devers for Lucroy.

The only way getting Lucroy makes sense, is if we already have a trade line-up netting us a very good SP'er for Swihart and Devers.

Although Lucroy would be a nice addition to our line-up, the catcher position is nearly the least of our worries.

I like trying to improve by upgrading our weakest links.

They are 6 games back and trading away pieces. They have no shot.

I would never count them out with 2 months left to play. They are 4.5 games behind us. I've seen teams make up that margin in 2-3 weeks.

after the Yankees stop breathing, I would put 2 bullets in their head to make sure that they are dead.

I'm with you on that.

Lucroy has just 1.3 years of team control. The overpay is not worth it.

I wouldn't give up Moncada for Sale. There's another White Sox pitcher who is not getting a lot of pub. That's James Shields. He would only be a 1 year rental, since he can opt out after this season. But he has been pitching a lot better lately, 1.78 era since July 4th. If we can get him for cheap, say a B prospect, I'd say that's a nice pickup to shore up the back end of the rotation.

Why would he opt out? He's fallen off a cliff and can't get up!

No thanks.

Now, if the CWS would greatly reduce the return in prospects, if we took on Jamie's contract, I'd listen... maybe

Swihart, Devers, Johnson, Owens, Lakins and Castillo (to balance part of the Shields' contract)

for

Quintana and Shields

Last week I asked how the Sox could consider trading a $60. mil investment ( Moncada ).

I guess that I am the only one who questions the feasibility of such a trade.

There is no way Sox would trade Moncada.

I've mentioned not trading Moncada many times, not so much over the money already invested in him, but because of his extreme upside potential and years of teaam control.

I think that he is without a doubt the best prospect in our system. I would hate to see him traded. That being said, I think that our prospects tend to be over-rated.

1) Past "over-ratings" do not mean current ones will follow the same path.

2) Name one nationally highly ranked Sox prospect that has failed during Henry's tenure?

As far as I know, our highest ranked prospects have been ...

Baseball America Top 20 Sox prospects over the years

Dice-K #1 2007

Bogey; #2 in 2014/#8 2013

Betts- never ranked in the top 20.

Moncada #3 2016

Buchholz #4 2008

HanRam #10 2005/ #19 2003

Ellsbury #13 2008

Benintendi #15 2016

Swihart #17 2015

Anderson #17 2009

Devers #18 2016

Espinoza #19 2016

I guess, if you want, you can call Dice-K a prospect flop, but I don't really view him as a prospect, he wasn't a total bust.

Lars Anderson never reached top 15 status, but was clearly a bust.

I just am not buying the attitude that our "prospects are over-rated". Not every top Sox prospect makes the top 20 national list. Only a select few have made the top 15 list.

If Beni ends up as good as Ellsbury (buy healthier) and Moncada turns out as good as Bogey, I'm all for keeping them.

Look at our starting line up....this is what it will look like without Ortiz.

If you don't think we need a power bat such as Encarnacion then we don't see the same game.

Sandy will come down to earth. Shaw will still hit sub 200 vs lefties. Who plays left when Young is not in. Is he really the long term answer? Holt? Please.

This is not a complete team. We haven't even started to talk about our pitching.

What the hell did we see in Aaron Hill?

I agree.

But people here ask questions like "What if we offer Moncada +++ for Sale." Is no one considering that would sink $60. mil.?

You gotta kick the tires and kick 'em hard on a guy like Sale (or Quintana).
